Arrow Melbourne and Victoria Touristy Stuff?

I'm back in Melbourne for the remainder of my stay in Australia.

Having already done some touristy stuff like drive along the Great Ocean Road to see the 12 minus 6 Apostles, Geelong AFD, FPV/FPR in Campbeltown tour, V8 RACE Supercar experience at Calder Park, Eureka Tower, the Restaurant Tram, Philip Island (Koalas, Penguins, Grand Prix circuit), Heathcote dragway racing, etc. I'm wondering what's there left to do without breaking the bank?

Oh and thanks to Whoosha for agreeing to put up with me for the next few weeks, it was a tall order... lol

--Russ

PS. thanks to all you guys for giving me suggestions on all other places I've been to, visited and lived in over the past 10 months in Australia.

If you are in the Melb CBD visit the Melbourne Visitor Centre, they're located opposite Flinders St station on the cnr of Flinders St & Swanston St/St Kilda Rd at Federation Square. You are sure to get some ideas from them.

Now for the home town plug, Sovereign Hill is a big tourist drawcard and is easily done in a day trip and you don't need a car to get there. About an hour by train (V/Line) out of Melbourne.

Not all that much to do in Victoria. You could do the two day hike around Wilsons Prom. We hiked into the lighthouse which is the southern most tip of mainland Aus. slept there the night and hiked out the following day. Most spectacular scenery in Victoria. Grampians are also quite nice for a couple of days and are only a tank of fuel west of Melbourne. If fishing is your thing then jump on a charter in Port Phillip Bay as its snapper season. If your a foodie then head to Lygon Street, China town, or Southbank in Melbourne for some great food and coffee. You could take a day trip out to Castlemaine just north of Melbourne and visit the Rod Shop. Jump on a water taxi at Southbank and head over to Williamstown if you want to check out the Melbourne docks. There's a place down on the Mornington Peninsula that'll let you drive tanks for about $200. I don't have the details or know if they're still open. Beg someone to lend you a dirt bike and head out to Noojee or towards Erica and bash around the logging tracks for a few days. That or there's a few MX tracks around Melbourne. That's all I can think of for now...

take a drive through the wine district, the yarra valley, through healesville and through the black spur, it's an awesome road. if you're game, try the kinglake national park road while you're in that region. The black spur will take you eventually to Marysville area, spend some time, support the local businesses that remain to help get them back on the map.

Go up to Mt Macedon up to the memorial cross, its an awesome drive up there and there is a cool little cafe there which does a good burger. Skyways pub in Airport West does the best well done steak, might be worth checking out.
