I need to blow off some steam, and a forum is a good place for that.
I live in the barossa valley SA and there is a new craze in town, do 20 k's under the speed limit and when people over take u drive flat out up behind them with your high beams on. This has happened to be 5 times this year already, and back in the day i would have dragged them from their car and beat their *** into the tarmac with a crowbar. Unfortunately I'm married now with a mortgage and a job. So I'm left sitting here burning with the rage of a thousand suns trying to stop myself from going around their house in the middle of the night. Is this happening more frequently elsewhere as well or just here? btw. i dont speed that much at all, i maybe 140kg's and 6'5 but my daily run about is a lil white i30 hyundai. - could people be picking on the little car because no big murderous guys could be driving one?

Not really a good place for blowing off steam par se.
I am sure that all members have been met with frustrations caused by fellow motorists. Being a frequent driver on the F3 I have encountered more than a few drivers that overtake at a great rate of knots only to pull in front & slow down to 5-10kph beneath the speed limit. As righteous as this will probably sound - we owe our fellow motorists courtesy & the benefit of the doubt. The more k's you travel the more it feels like it but - not all of them are out to get us.. |

Low act for sure, but just to cover all bases, have you checked the aim of your headlights? Could the other drivers be equally ****ed off thinking you came flying up behind them with your high beam on?

Don't suppose you've got your fog lights on by any chance like this i30?
(cause I always turn full high beam on to guys that come at me with them....) . Last edited by zilo; 28-10-2012 at 11:43 PM. |

Obviously it is happening regular where you are, if you know their registration pass it on to the authorities.
No use punching the lights out of a brain dead moron.... not worth it. |

Those fog lights are defectable if used in South Australia and the cops pick up people for "Dazzling" with them quite often in this neck of the woods.

i would be checking that your headlights are properly adjusted & if your using those new hi-intensity globes or the like then go back to original spec ones,im a truckie & the amount of people that have misaligned headlight beams that i see is amazing, same goes for drivers that leave their fog lights on all the time. Also check your speedo is correct, most are out by 10k from the factory & if you have larger diameter wheels it may be alot more!

3 things,
For some reason the cops up here in QLD have the worst (brightest) headlights and are the worst for "dazzling" you. I have a ute and have black window tint across the back window, low beam / high beam / misaligned beam, overbright lights are not a problem from behind anymore. Lastly, a 5x D sized Maglite pointed back at them sorts out any misunderstandings.

Never have that problem... Sounds to me like your doing something wrong? Perhaps tailgating them and driving aggressively before you overtake them?
People don't highbeam for the fun of it.

it`s not worth the aggravation doing the pay back thing, (although it may feel good at the time), as a young buk i turned into a street in melbourne one night time on my way to work only to be blinded by an xf panel van sitting in the middle of the road about 100 metres away with high beams pointing right at me, after me flashing a couple of times to get him to dip them and no response, i had some good upgraded candles so i give it back to him big time, anyway............. after the said officer in the xf pulled me up and after a heated exchange and went over my whole car and defected me lol, need i say any more......

Sounds weird, first thing I would check is do you have a habit of sitting right up their clackka before overtaking?
Was in a car the other day with someone else driving, could not see the road before the bumper of the car in front. Asked if they always sat that close and they said "yeah, why?"

I'm with the OP on this.
I am over SA drivers at the moment. In the last 12 months the government scare campaigns have reduced ordinary drivers to a bunch of paranoid speedo gazers. I am not one to speed, occasionally 'creep' over the limit, but damn me, the current trend to sit 10k's under the limit to avoid the hip pocket burden that is 2012 revenue raising, is borderline rediculous and dangerous in its own right. Its as if every motorist has been given the duty of keeping everyone around them below the limit aswell, and anyone who has confidence in themselves and feels comfortable maintaining the set limit and dares to overtake is a menace and should be dealt with in some form as the thread eludes to. Wake up SA, your being dumbed down by the minute and its making you worse drivers, not safer. |

Worst Ive had, is when someone is coming towards you, they will dim their lights, only to turn the highs back on about 3 car lengths BEFORE they pass you!

thats an old trick mate, its a way of getting you back for either not dipping your lights quick enough{dip them before you see the actual headlights & remember a truck driver sits higher than you & will see your lights before you see theirs** or your headlights are misaligned & hit their eyes not the road & they just think you havent dipped your lights.

this happened to my mate (in Vic) overtook someone, they sat right up our *** with the high beams on.
Only we were in the transit van with a few large spotty's.. slowed down and let him overtake, then gave him a blast of his own medicine. I can't recall doing anything that would have prompted the other driver to do that. Needless to say if he chooses to do it again im sure he will be checking for spotty's on the next car as he overtakes.

Where abouts in the barossa mate? I had a letter in the mail the other week because someone complained about me overtaking them. I don't overtake unless there is an overtaking lane or they are going ~10-20km under the speed limit. I was in sandy creek according to the letter.

Once three times in one night. Once I got to a town I realized the foglights were on after seeing them shine on a sign. No indicator inside the car to tell me they were on. Guy driving before me obliviously had them on. When driving my own car on the F3 some idiot driving a Falcon in the middle lane put his high beams on as soon as I passed him. I ignored him for about 30 seconds, I then put my rear foglights on for about 30 seconds. By then I was ****ed off so I changed to the far left lane and slowed to 80. He then dipped his lights and slowed down as well so he wouldn't pass me. So I slowed more until he passed me. I then got back into the middle lane behind him and hit him with my highbeam for about 5 seconds. I passed him again and had no more problems. I never have foglights on and I don't think my lights are aimed to high since I have been driving regularly at night for the past 14 months in this car and he is the only person to ever hit me with highbeams from front or behind. |

Do not get me started on vehicle lighting. I will just say that it is a wonder how people manage to obtain their drivers licence when they can't even get the hang of a light switch.

Not long after I got my licence, I was driving home at night when some clown in a landcruiser ute sat right up my clacker with his high beams on. I slowed down and let him past then drove up behind him with my high beams on. He then turned on a huge rear facing spotlight (probably as big as a steering wheel). It felt like I was looking into the sun.
He won.

when i drive the Rio which is primarily the mrs' work car with feminine number plates on it, i get 'harassed' a LOT more mainly by idiots in bigger cars. Their harassment has zero effect on me but it's amazing the difference when people think you're a chick, in a small car. Lol @ doing 20 under then having them up your backside with the high beams though, sounds pretty modern-day to me.
Must have derived from the 'doing 20 under in a 100 zone then 10 over in a 70 zone' crowd. So OP, yes the car will be a big influence. Unless you got out of it. But i don't encourage that. They're just idiots, like most people driving cars.
