Default Did everyone see the Holden Advertise...*cough*.. I mean Top Gear episode last night?

That was as big a plug as Holden could have possibly pulled from anywhere around the world. There was at least 10 minutes coverage and not one bad word said. They even compared the vehicles to Audi and Aston Martin.

Obviously this was organised on their trip out to Australia recently. What I want to know is how or why Ford Australia didnt throw their equivalent of super utes/sedans under the boy's noses? Did they even try or was this decided to be insignificant? Surely while discussing bathurst during the segment they would have loved to have had a Ford equivalent there as a rival?

I wouldnt accept the excuse of ford australia not selling any vehicles there either. The exposure they would have gained surely would have exceeded the cost of sending at least one vehicle over there.

Well you are going to have to as that is why. They only do models you can buy there.

I thought it was pretty good, great to see Hammond loving a ute. Obviously I didn't watch it through blue coloured glasses though...

At least their history of the ute was accurate.

I thought it was great segment, and was happy to see some Aussie metal on the show, and for it to be credited as Aussie built. Most of the English, actually most people around the world, have no idea we design and build cars here in Australia.

Don't get me wrong. I thought the maloo looked pretty awesome (have seen in the flesh and it is nothing to thumb your nose at) and think it was great to see Aussies built vehicles getting credit. I was not watching the segment through blue glasses but really questioning Ford missing in action as it seemed to be a great opportunity that Holden took up!

Clearly there was no opportunity missed by Ford - Falcons arn't sold in the UK so there was never any chance of them appearing on the UK Top Gear.
The great opportunity Holden have taken up but Ford havn't is exporting their cars to other markets.

Vauxhaull, the white sedan was the VXR8 Bathurst (pronounced bath-hurst by them lol) and the ute was the Vauxuaull Maloo which is apparently Aborigine for storm.

I learnt something lol.

Simply put, Holden export their cars over there via Walkinshaw.
If Ford started exporting them then they'd appear on the show.

Ah this is an old one then. Its really got stuff all to do with Holden, Vaxhuall want exposure.

So not much FoA can do when ford europe dont want our cars, nothing like that will ever happen unless the US want a global RWD; and imagine the storm that would create.

If this only went to air last night it really goes to show how slack our television stations are at getting stuff on air. Its months old!

1) They do actually only review cars that can be purchased from a dealers floor on Top Gear

2) Walkinshaw is Scottish so its little surprise HSV push their products in the dreary isle.

3) As much as they whinge and moan about non-Euro cars Hammond is a bit of a yank tank fan and Clarkson doesn't mind a muscle car either.

Sometimes you gotta just stand back and give an opponent a clap for doing well. HSV has recived a great review from a media outlet in the UK. However just like the previous 4 or 5 times they certainly haven't had a "Clarkson smokes it up on a Sunday, sell on Monday effect.

I reckon the segment was great. Good to see aussie cars on a UK show at last! They seemed to enjoy em too.. and I also laughed at "bath-hurst"

Cool

I think the episode was quite fair.
They matched "our" Aussie muscle cars against European super-saloons!

The thing is that you can't buy Falcon there, I still can't get over the fact that Ford's decided not to export our pride and joy out to the world.
We know that GT or F6 would be as good on that track as BMW M5, right?

Good segment, good cars, well done.
Hats off to Holden for being there, obviously GM were less restrictive about it than ford usa is about the FG selling elsewhere.

You would think the Poms would pronounce it correctly seeing it was named after one of thier own, Lord Bathurst, Secretary of State for War and Colonies in 1815.

Probably because, the new VE HSV range shyts all over the FG FPV range. IMO ... In both Looks and Performance. Beside's the F6. But a S/C GTS. You cannot say that it would compete with the F6

Why would Top Gear care about a car that the majority of their viewing audience cannot buy, or has even heard of? Nor do they care about the Holden vs Ford rivalry which is unique only to Australia.

How many of those viewers can afford Lamborghini's, Ferrari's and all the other highly expensive cars they review? Didn't they review the Cadilac CTS-V, Dodge Challenger SRT8 and the Corvette Z06 when they went to the USA as well?

Good thing I didn't use the word "afford" then huh. And I reckon if they did a show here in Oz, then yeah, they'd probably take an FG for a strap.

No, "cannot buy", as in, walk into a Ford dealer and be told that you "cannot buy" one.

XCPWSF, are you serious? You know what Peuty is talking about. And they test Ferrari's and Lambo's and Austins because everyone around the world knows them and loves seeing them put through their paces. If you want to see Patrol's and Prado's, Camery's and Hyundia's then watch Drive or The Motor Show on Sunday arvo's.

Top Gear UK has such a good rating because they do the car's that nobody else does.

Top Gear AUS do the FPV's because they are Australian's.

And I honestly don't want to watch Top Gear UK compare Ford with Holden. *yawn* .
