Being a Holdenman before stepping across to the Blue Oval 13months ago & ive been more than happy with the product thus far. But after watching a Toyota Aurion add on TV & seeing countless Holden TV commercials. It got me thinking is Fords marketing budget especially in relation to (TV) a lot less than Holden & Toyota (I already know Toyota has deep marketing pockets)
I have never really thought about this before as being a Holdenman I assumed I didnt really take note of Ford commercials. I know there is print & radio advertising of these products. I have seen plenty of Ford Print Media but TV commercials apart from the BF Mk II Ghia commercial which is very recent it seems very dry? Especially in comparission to the other company's mentioned.

I'd Agree with you. Recently is has, when the BA came out, it had agreat deal of air time, as did the AU adds, I mean, who could forget Mambo No. 5.

I dont think it's smaller than other companies, I think they just spend it in different areas and using different methods.

Ford's advertising is pathetic. **** poor adds...... but at least there arent that many of them.
I am sick of explaining to people what an FPV is, I sure as hell don't mention its like the GT in the embrassing Billy cart add. I read in some car rag recently that Toyota sell twice as many cars as Ford yet Ford (australia) posted a porfit double that of Toyota (australia). So Ford make 4 times as much on each car they sell, I reckon Toymota spend a hell of a lot of that on Advertising.

You've got to remember that its not Ford that actually make or at times even come up with the basic ideas for an ad. Its advertising and marketing companies that have little to no interest or knowledge of cars. I haven't even seen any TV ads promoting Ford's bathurst win. If Ford want to do well with their advertising budget they've got to tie their current crop of performance cars to iconic cars of the past. I know that many of us are sick of these connections but to the general public it gives a real insight into the sort of company Ford is. And thats what its all about illustrating the passion involved with owning/driving a Ford vehicle if that didn't exist we'd be discussing margarine on a Medow Lea Forum.

Actually I haven't been to Sydney airport recently... do they still have the huge wall dedicated to ford & fpv? |

i reckon ford ads are good.......?
the ones i remember most are the xr8 ads (AU) when the guys face is being pushed back by the wind (even my holden mates/relatives loved that ad) and the chick magnet one is funny, along with the "he must be stuck in 3rd" ad with the aussie invader jet car... i can't think of 1 good holden ad....their thunderstruck ute doing the doughnuts in the sand is pathetic. must be a WA thing maybe...hehehe |

The first BA one with the coppas following the XR8 was good.
Comes down to the fact that a very small percentage of Falcon buyers are private, most are fleet now. I see more Fiesta / Focus / Territory ads then Falcon ones nowadays.

i seem to remember FPV ads that just had a black typhoon or gt coming out of the black shadowed background towards the camera, but they didnt last for long.
i thought that was a good add. they looked menacing & mean. the add was short so lower cost to pay the commercial stations and it wouldn't have been expensive to make. they should of kept them going for a while. silent but effective.

i say ford/fpv should have fpvs and xrs racings around a track and show flashes of the 888 car and then state facts and records like...the ba/bf are the most succesful touring cars in australia...show the links with the xw and xys and moffats bathurst win with 2 gt's following. then talk about how ford has one more races over the world then the other manufactures. talk about who has won the last 3 championships. and show links to the gt 40 winning the 24 hour races against ferrari show mustangs and then talk about how ford has more to do with aussies then holden does...they could be really succesful if they only showed the history of ford and maybe you will have less teens being holden bogans...why is it that most chicks like holden over ford...not knowing the facts? because the ones who dont follow things like the fans just assume that from the adds that holden is the best and it is aussie fair dinkum stuff.

but i see no problem with them showing the cars roots and its history but then also stating that the new falcon is more aussie then the comodore. they could say they have the best of the world. the new falcon has history from the usa being cousins with the mustang and gt-40 (true race legends) and being ford the first car manufacturer, they could also talk about how they have the german precison (with the zf) and the aussie design and built right here and the engine built right here unlike holden...all for an aussie price. it sounds like great value |

But good point if its the only Australian large car manufactured here with an Australian Built Engine. Spell that out in the add. The Aurion is that engine built here? I know up till Mitsubishi closing its Lonsdale engine plant there V6 was built here.

I've seen that many non-car peoples jaw drop when they see the new GT and then have that i don't really believe you voice when you tell them its a ford. And I've seen heaps of tool squeezers at a burnout comp bag out the falcons and then cheer on the mustangs. Holden has done very well in covering up it's American ownership. Ford Australia on the other hand should be justifiably proud of its detroit roots.

Fact: I've seen the new Ghia add ONCE since BF2 came out.
Fact: I've seen a BF1 add ever except for the ute commericals. How many families can fit in a ute? Fact: FPV Haven't advertised on TV since mide 2005. Instead of spending LESS on things they need to spend MORE. Spam the commerical networks and ditch the radio crap. Ford TV marketing presence < visibility of Pluto at midday. |

What about the Commodore V6 engine - that's built here. The fact of the matter is that advertising costs a heap of money, there's no point spending million's of dollars on it if demand is already reasonable. For sure we've seen a drop in Falcon sales, but Territory and Ute are still half decent. With the recent reduction in shifts, Ford is probably at the stage where the plant is at near operational capacity without the extra shift - which will insight a whole lot more expenditure than what Ford needs. Additionally there is no reason to exhaust potential future sales of the Orion by encouraging an early purchase of a BFII now. Lets not also forget that FoMoCo globally probably has a worse state of affairs than Mitsubishi has. I'm sure there is plenty of pressure for Ford Aus to keep paying those dividends back to the parent. |

Is it just me or is every Holden ad pathetic?
The Viva ad, The new Captiva ad, The VE commodore 'stone age' garbage now with added 'we are the greatest' quotes. Every Ad from Holden is just rubbish and they ram them down our throats. Compare them with the 'stuck in third ad' the one with the dirt bikes and the german guy ads. Only problem is they are hardly ever on. Then there are the absolute stinkers like the Ford dealer ads and the latest ones where people leave places to get to the Ford dealership (the hospital one is the worst). |
