yeah, id imagine with new cars, theft would almost be impossible without keys. unless a tip tray was used.

Code Grabbers, they retreive the signal that is put out when you immobilise the vehicle. They convert that signal into a code (number sequence) then use it to be XXXts. This shits me big time that someone can lose their ride to, more often than not DRUGGIES who owe money. IMO.

LOL! These thieves have got to be Australian. They steal a UTE, and then put a telly and a slab in the back.

Ok I'll bite then. Let's assume for a second that they used one (which of course we know they didn't). So they got the frequency that locks and unlocks the car. So they can open the car. Tell me how they start it with that? BAs need the correct key to be in the barrel to start (assuming we're not pulling wires apart and what not).

More often than not junkies who need money? How many junkies have access to such devices?

Yeah, I know it's not a funny topic, but stealing a slab along with the ute is priceless!

All im saying is that they do exist. Ive seen one work on my old XE GHIA which had a Viper alarm with rolling code. I smashed it with a hammer as soon as i realised it actually worked. As for starting it, dipstick or screwdriver would have been fine but i had already seen enough, as for later models i cant answer that one.

RACV open the back door, dunno about the Utes. They stick and airbag thing in and get the door open enough to latch it off.

Thats fine if they professionally break into the car, but what they are trying to say is BA onwards you need the key for it to actually start

You can't force the ignition of a BA to start it EAadam, they use a transponder key. No coded key, no start.

Sucks mate, hopefully you'll either get it back or the insurance company will cough up for a new one...

This has to be the easiest way to steal a car, people always leave keys lying around inside thier houses.

Further to this, I know that as long ago as 13+ years, the 1993 VR Commodore (forgive my Holden knowledge being better than my Ford knowledge) featured a 'rolling code' to address this very issue - it changes the code each time the system is armed. As far as I know, no modern alarm should be vulnerable to code grabbers. I believe thieves breaking into houses to steal keys is the most recent method.

Stealing the keys from a house is actually the most common method these days
