so ive finally got some cash scraped together [thanks mr bank manager] and am ready to fulfill one of my life's ambitions: purchasing a 90's performance ford.
ive always been a fan of the eb and el gt series - the right amount of power, looks and luxury. so you would think that with the introduction of the ba gt's and the absoloute rock bottom prices of second hand falcons [ed xr6 for 6 grand anybody?] that it would be a fairly easy feat to pick one up cheaply yeah? redbook -yes, i know that prices for special cars are not entirely accurate- lists the eb gt in the 12 grand category. i have a stack of auto traders etc from over the years and it now appears that eb gt owners are valuing their cars upwards. so have they really reached classic-hard to obtain status or are the owners just being a little too eager? i mean, 25 - 35 g's for an eb is insane...right? i would love to drop around 20 on one in good condition...am i being fair here...what are your thoughts guys???

I personally think the release of the new GT has shown how rare the oldies are.
they werent a run of the mill production car, they're limited and are now being used as an investment. the EL GT's plataud a couple of years ago, since then they're going up. I probably wouldn't pay 25-35 for an EB GT, but an EL GT for $40k, if i was lookin to spend that much on a car hell yes.

youre absoloutely right in regards to their price plateuing a couple of years ago...if only id purchased then!
none the less, im a big fan of the eb gt - dropping 35 on a 92 falcon, im sure most would declare me clinically insane! the thing is though... are the owners really getting buyers at these prices? the ones ive seen on ebay are all passed in...

i wouldn't say Ebay would be the best place to guage interest.
I guess the easiest way to find out if they're selling would be to go through some older ads for EL GT's, see if they're selling and perhaps call them up to see what they're getting for them.

yeah, ive had my eye on that one...it does say immaculate condition but the interior and front shots show slight deterioration... with a gt, you would hope that it would have been garaged and pampered all its life... still..its a qld car, so less chance of any cancer spots...

I noticed a cardinal red eb gt in the latest just cars for $16k......
I nearly bought a blue eb gt just before christmas, i offered $16k at the time, but he said his rock bottom price was $18k and declined... I ended up with a 5litre fairmont ghia manual for much much less, it's got the comfort of the gt inside, just not quite the go. The go can be fixed though.

If you really want a 90's performance Ford, but not so worried about its GT status or collectability, i would be looking for a fully optioned ED Sprint.
Easily as good as a GT but without the pricetag. With the money left over you could really get it moving. |

I think they are both very nice cars, and certainly the pinnical (sp) of performance/luxury ford's in the 90's.BUT for the money that owners ask for them I couldn't justify one, particulary when sprints and el2 xr8s have come down so much.
If I was spending 40k and was in the market for a late model gt I'd be looking for a used ba. If I was in the market for a factory fast e-series I'd take a sprint over both the gt's on price and stealth.

eb gt in just cars for 16? ill head down to the newsagency after work and check it out...
yeah, i hear ya re the ed sprint. these things delved into the parts bin of the eb gt and were actually quicker based on power to weight. but the only thing is that the interiors have not aged well at all. the basic ed xr interior lacks the goodies of the gt, which was based on the ghia..

Like someone said, the Sprints are a bargin at the moment, thats what I would go for. If money wasnt an issue, then there is an EL GT for sale in this months Unique Cars for $43000. Alot of cash yes, but its limited, and this one has less than 10,000k's! I presume it would be on thier website aswell, if you are serious I can get the page number for you and the details. A EL GT is an awesome ride, just needs more power. There is a member on the boards that has a supercharged version, that would be unreal and fix the power issue up pretty quickly.

yeah, ive seen the el gt - a bit out of my price range, and i guess im really after the ebgt. ive owned two ef's before so want something different...and man, that body kit on the eb has aged well - the car looks as good today as it did upon its release.

I've seen a couple of good examples of EL GT's go for around the 30g mark.

What about an FBT, they are damn cheap now and more exclusive than a GT.

I traded my EB GT in on my BA GT a year ago and got 13g's for it. The pricks sold it a week later for 21g's drive away. It wasn't the best one out there but I've seen worse ones for twice what I got trade in.
I didn't get any bites for it at 25g's and got a good deal for the BA so traded it. I've still got bruses on my **** from kicking my self! should have kept it. Hindsight is a wonderfull thing.

Personally I'd buy a Sprint before getting a GT. They will go up in value soon enough and are a lot more of a performance car.

Investmentwise they'd be the pick to go up later I think. As much as I like the (e-series)gt's,they are under powered and overpriced IMO.

I'd look for a Sprint personally, otherwise a T-Series. The T-Series are damn cheap and I believe the price will begin to climb soon enough.
Actually, no doubt I'd look for a T-Series for that money!!

The thing has done something like 2,000Kms in a year, maybe less (had about 85,000 Kms on it last I heard), with a rebuilt tranny, and he is looking for something in the low $20k area, last time I spoke to him. If you are interested drop me a PM, and I'll check with him.

Hey guys, im no expert on the Sprint but was it possible to get it with the Ghia type leather trim?
I had a ED Ghia with it and i must say apart from climbing over the bolsters to get out, it was very comfy. Also was the Sprint limited to a certain build no. I know if i could get 200kw with full kit, leather trim, full power pack, sunroof, premium sound and XR suspension in an Ed Sprint i would have one in a heartbeat, even for 15k. |

Pulled up next to an old bloke in an EL GT at the lights this arvo. Wind the widow down and ask how much, he says 45k. Reasonable price i say. there were only 297 or thereabouts made.
Also, theres an EL gt on www.australianmusclecarsales.com.au for sale |
