Everything's working and I don't have any suggestions: but this seemed the only place to contact the owners....
I seem to have posted about 75% of my available space for posting pics with my postings - so I'm wondering, what happens when I reach 100%? I won't be able to post any more pics - what do I do? Go back over my old posts and delete pics or you do it for me or what? Second question is how do you do it? Manage to keep this forum clear of spambots creating robot nonsense user accounts? I have a couple of (virtually unused) forums and I just can't keep them out. I am now, with the latest one, having every new account come to me for approval. I get about half a dozen a day and they are all, I'd say, spurious. It is a judgement call of course, but when I see nonsense user names and email addresses like (the most recent one): ave.r.yangerasev3@gmail.com I'm pretty confident it is phoney. How do you do it? regards, ab |

Open up an account with Photobucket.
Almost unlimited photos can then be posted. When you get new accounts joining a forum, you should be able to view their IP address if you are the Admin. Copy and paste their IP addfress into Google. You'll then soon find out if they are spammers or not.

Oh, okay. I can use my Picasa account for that.
Googling IP's is not the answer - that still leaves me manually checking every new account. Fordforums isn't doing that. They're too big. They'd be getting hundreds a day maybe. How are they (you?) doing it? |

We actually do check every single new registration - and yes we do get about 350 attempts per day but it doesn't take long to check them once you gain some experience and can identify the "wrong" IP ranges.
We also have a range of IP blocks that are stopped from even attempting to register along with a long list of unacceptable email domains as well and this knocks out about 300 a day as well. Finally, we use an automated purge every 5 days for those who don't activate in that time frame - these are usually because the email addresses are fake. Cheers Russ

Well I'm impressed. So much work! So labour intensive! In this day and age. The fight with the baddies is front line trench warfare alright.
The government should be right out there with us, helping, writing new routines and progs to help in the fight and passing them out to us, freely.... one of these days the government databases and progs will go down for lack of protection......... It's a worry. Okay. Thank you for the very complete reply. I'll just knuckle down and do the same thing....... regards, ab ] |
