Default Top Gear - Australia

http://topgear.sbs.com.au/

Quote:

TOP GEAR - AUSTRALIA

We’re on the hunt to find Australia’s best Top Gear on air team - and we’re looking for both tried and untried television talent. Will you make the team?

Are you amongst Australia’s most knowledgeable, humorous, articulate and passionate people when discussing and assessing cars? If you are, we want to give you a chance to be part of the presenting team for this exciting new series being developed and produced by Freehand, in association with BBC Worldwide and Top Gear, for SBS.

To be part of this fantastic opportunity, you are:

18 years or older on 1 January, 2008 - though if you’re a Lewis Hamilton whose skills could impress our insurance company, then we might consider you.

The holder of a current, unblemished drivers licence.

Available for filming in Australia at dates to be confirmed in 2008.

Not affiliated (beHolden ... hmm) to any car company or motoring company through sponsorship, commercial arrangements or employment.

Demonstrably knowledgeable, opinionated and passionate about cars - and able to deliver that knowledge and passion (along with humour, of course) on screen.

NOT a clone of the magnificent and simply unique Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond or James May. We’re looking for Australia’s own Top Gear faces. Of course you could be a clone of The Stig.

You may be an amateur motor enthusiast and expert who’s not a television presenter. You may be a motoring journalist with little or no television experience. You may have some television experience BUT we’re NOT looking for classic television presenters without knowledge, experience or expertise.
SEND US YOUR VIDEO
Initially, we need to see and hear you on video. So send us a video (VHS, DV or DVD, we don’t mind) which gives us a look at what you can do. Tell us about who you are, where you live, the best car ever, the worst car ever, what stunts and celebrities you want to see on Top Gear Australia and what drives you nuts in the world of cars. And if you want a couple of your mates to help you out on camera as a ready-made team, that’s fine. And if you want to be The Stig - persuade us you know how to drive and we’ll NEVER reveal who you are - and of course you won’t either!

But you’ve only got 10 minutes on tape. That’s all we’ll watch - so no Hollywood epics please. And remember, this is not about clever film-making to disguise average talent. Let your talent shine through even if your video making technique’s not flash.

HOW TO APPLY

You need to download the Top Gear Australia application package - or you can email topgear@freehandtv.com.au and we’ll send it to you.

Complete the form and send it with your video entry to:

Top Gear Australia
Locked Bag 2005
Glebe NSW 2037

APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY 5PM ON FRIDAY, 1 FEBRUARY NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

Your video entry will be watched by a team of television professionals who will select those who shine for an interview. The next stage will see a chosen few come together for bit of a bonding session and camera tests. From those, the new Top Gear Australia presenting team will be chosen.

I vote Sourbastard No.1 applicant.
He will need to coin a phrase like Schwarzenegger does......... something like " off to the crusher with you"

Unbiased will not be a problem, he will hate them all.

That would be a departure from The Top Gear norm. Just about anything British and Jeremy salivates over it. Mention Aston Martin and he pitches a tent in his pants!

im not sold on the idea myself.
Top Gear in Australia, hosted by Australians.....is that really Top Gear at all?
its really just another car show with the Top Gear name.
now if the Top Gear team came out and tested a few cars......that would be a different story.

does this also mean that we wont get to see the original Top Gear on TV anymore?

i don't think it will work unless they make it totally different to the original topgear. if they try and copy it will not work. the way clarkson, hammond and may work together is unique and their style is also unique.

why don't they just stream the series live instead of running at least 2 seasons behind.

hopefully they will continue to show the british topgear as well as the aussie one.

i dont think it will have the same success as the bbc series. Some of the antics they get upto are downright mad and probarbly illegal in some instances! the crasiest thing i saw was when jeremy clarkson drove a rolls royce into a swimming pool, and when they designed there own converitble cars and built them and had to test them to see if they would go through a carwash, the tube they used for the roof came adrift and got caught in the carwash brushes and the carwash machine jammed and caught fire, funny as to watch though!

Top gear aus will be good because it will have good fun shenanigans aussie style involving aussie cars by aussie hosts.. and it will also have the F6/cobra most probably first episode on

I cant think of anyone still. exept unknown people who would be extremely funny, ford biased and probably sued in 5 seconds flat :

I can think of heaps of people who i couldnt bare to host it. Denyer is one of them.

no doubt the applicant will be subjected to a Holden road test at some stage. count me out.

couldnt be leanne tander they are part of hrt. you would need someone whacky and fearless and downright funny, not necessarly someone in the automotive industry, someone kookoo like mark holden, ah darn theres that name again"holden" lol.
i reckon mark holden and even sam newman working together on the show, newmans somewhat of a race driver and holdens as funny as hell when he starts to loose the plot. You dont want a bunch of officianados to run he show it would make it boring and more like a car review show, it should have some substance of that, but it also should have the "i dont believe they done that" factor as the bbc series has, thats just my view, im sure many would disagree
