Cool Capri GTV6 Delete model

Hi all does anyone have info and specs for one of these 11 cars? Would love to know what it's weight when sold was. Keith

It sounds like you may have two different things confused together.

In Australia, there were 11 cars built late in '72 which got the upgraded drivetrain that the UK cars got in mid-late '71. The final kerb weight would be quite similar to other GTV6's I imagine, but I haven't seen the Ford technical bulletin for these cars. They are known in Capri circles as Capri 'specials'.

I'm pretty sure there were more than 11 cars ordered with 'delete options', which was really just a car without stripes and paint blackouts. You could buy any Ford GT this way.

Cheers
Jamie

Hi Jamie understand that but with what I have heard it was a special model where even the chassis was strengthened so what was the final kerb weight of the car. Keith

Hi Keith,

I'm not aware of a v6 capri that had further body strengthening over standard, and I've been around Capris for over 25 years.

None of the factory manuals and parts books make any mention of additional strengthening above standard for a delete model.

From your other posts, it looks like you have your heart set on a V8 Capri, and I don't blame you. I'd love one. The reality is that VSB 14 makes that almost impossible now, and I don't think you are going to find any literature that pushes the kerb weight of a V6 capri above the magical 1100kg threshold. I re-read the engine section of VSB14, thinking you might be lucky with a fully optioned car (sunroof, a/c, p/s, overriders, etc), but it states that a car's options aren't able to be included for weight calculation.

I think the only way you might have a chance is if you could find a certifiable factory correct, unmodified GTV6 and have it weighed to see if Ford's figures were out. But even if you had that, you'd have to convince your rego authority, and that would be a potentially fruitless experience.

I wish you good luck though, because if you crack it, then the rest of us have a chance.

Cheers
Jamie

Hi xxx000

No, the RS3100's were imported in'74, and Australia got 50 of those out of total production of 249.

The 'specials' were probably the last 11 gtv6 capris made, and as they had probably run out of the normal drivetrain parts by then, they imported some uprated units from the UK to move the last of the shells out. Some were Ford dealer's cars, others were sold as special releases through Ford dealers like Bib Stillwell who put his BSS badge on the bootlid and sold them as Bib Stillwell Specials.

Guys,

There were 10 'Specials' retro-fitted with 'D' port head engines, the later UK 'top loader' style gearboxes and with a 3.09:1 diff centre, all were CK17ME builds, which means that they were all built as August 1972. They were given to Ford executives, with 4 going to Bib Stillwell's of Melbourne for sale to the general public as 'special imported vehicles'. An additional CK17ME engine, was exchanged into a CK17LE build Capri, an April 1971 Capri that had only this uprated V6 engine fitted to it in order to satisfy a customer complaint at the time.

Further, the curb weight of a July 1972 UK built V6 Capri, which was fitted with these 'D' port engines, etc., weighs 1039kgs or 2290 lbs, according to the Ford UK Supplementary Workshop Manual as issued by Ford UK in July 1972.

Cheers, Terry

Hi guys thanks Terry (for ruining my dream) but sounds like you know the car I am talking about I think one is for sale at the moment from memory in barn finds website or something like that at the guy wants around $100000 for it. I'm torn between two things I prefer things to be original and in good nick but lost my v8 Capri when the missus gave me the ultimatum of me or the car. Still with the missus and now she wants me to buy the car Spose I win. Very few capris are for sale now and I might even buy the Capri perana that is for sale in Melbourne as that will tick all boxes only it's motor has been changed but still is a Basil Green 302 just not matching numbers. Any thoughts. Keith

Keith, in Victoria all that is needed to change from Historic (that's what we call it) back to standard rego is to produce a Roadworthy Certificate and pay the appropriate rego and transfer fees. Unless of course the car has been modified too much in which case it may need a Vehicle Assessment report to satisfy our Vicroads people.

The Perana is owned by a fellow Capri Car Club member down here in Melbourne, he also owns a red Perana, which is why he's selling the yellow one. He wanted a red one, it's as simple as that. I honestly don't know the car that well, but it is a genuine BG Capri. Terry

Trying to register the Perana Capri and in NSW we require a blue slip as its in a new state. From what I can work out the chassis no is not stamped on the body of the car so they reckon I will have to get a no stamped on to a perfectly painted classic car which will create problems. Also it has no rear seat belts so will have to put those in and then get an engineers cert to say they are installed right. Life wasn't meant to be easy. Keith
