Default Clunk 1st to 2nd Auto

Just bought a 1999 AU Fairlane auto 6cyl, terrific car however its now developed a clunk when changing up to 2nd in the auto and occassionally another noise clunk/bang when turning a corner at low speed.
A mate said service the auto however as far as I know there are adjustments that can be made just a fluid change.
Anyone have any thoughts?

The autos in these are sealed up, they dont even have a normal filler tube unless added by someone in the past.. Any alterations to the bands/clutches etc would require the pan off I would expect, and then you service the auto anyway.
You could have one of those electronic shift kit addons, and that may need adjusting possibly.
I would guess that the issue you have is more of a mechanical one than any electronic one tho..

How many kays on the car?
Could be an S5 solenoid.

If your box is slipping around the corners then the fluid may be low.1st to second may indicate a high idle or s5 solenoid needs to be looked at.

Thanks
Fluid is the right level and still a nice red colour so I presuming it was serviced in recent past. The car has done 301,000kms and has had an exchange tranny at sometime as there is a sticker under the bonnet.
Is this s5 solenoid internal or external?
To me the clunk is auto as I aware of diff clunk or suspension bush clunk which I have had in the past in a FG and BA.
Sometimes the clunk just isnt there and is also less noticeable in Econ mode.

Ironically my car clunks in auto mode and not in power. S5 solenoid is internal .The valve body needs lowering to turn the star adjusting screw clockwise .It makes the box firmer and tends to take out the clunks and sloppy shifts.

Thanks Stav,
I am not confident playing around internally with the transmission.
Looks like a trip to an auto trans specialist.
Anyone know a good one around the Hurstville area?
