I think Mustang sales were a little slower last month, being in transition to the new 2018 models that arrived in showrooms this month and potential buyers holding off.

If Mustang only sold 260 in May, which was attributed to the transition to 2018 models, why would it bounce back to 635 in June before the 2018 release?

... Because of the extremely good runout deals they offered on the 2017 models.

I know because I bought one.

Someone remind me please, do VFACTS include only private sales or across the board fleet/government/business?

Fair enough, hardly anyone wanted a soon to be superceeded Mustang in May because they were still at retail price but they did in June when they were heavily discounted.

I think too that some consumers who wanted the 2018 models then started to realise the huge price increases on them, so that coupled with the discounts in June on MY17's, suddenly made the difference even greater again.

That also meant that the GT Mustangs would now cross the "Luxury car tax" threshold, again adding to the "on-road costs".

Not only were the dealers offering huge discounts, but for example, which I also got;

- Free scheduled servicing for 3 years or 45,000 kms. So basically the 15, 30 and 45 were free... A saving of at least another $1,000 or so.

- $2,000 worth of genuine Ford extras free.

Then there was the announcement of Ford in May of the new 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty.

All of the above made it a "no-brainer deal" for many people from a financial perspective.

$56K for a MY17 GT versus $73K for an MY18 GT + $1,000 servicing + $2,000 extras = $20K savings!

$56k for a Mustang built last year, bear in mind. i.e. effectively 1 year old.

That is true, but considering the desirability of Mustangs, and the price increases, that will probably continue with the 2019 and 2020 models as well... The 2017's will retain good value on the used market in a few years time.

I think the modern Aussie Mustangs will be somewhat like the WRX's and not depreciate as much as many other cars.

Haha i’ll repeat it again with no apologies. Thai build junk built by sweatshop workers for $2USD an hour doesn’t belong on our roads at the price the manufacturers are charging. Full stop. If the price tag matched Great Wall and Mahondra, then we’ll talk .

Its Latin. It means in honour of the dead. Which is what the 17 model is compared to the 18.

The latin word is "Inferia" not "Infetia".

At least you left my little i30 oil-burner alone this time! Every time I wash it I tell it, "MM says you're a heap of poop and don't deserve to be on our roads."

Damn thing doesn't listen to a word I say - just insists on purring along and making me wait 800 Klicks between bowser visits.

I must get around to buying a decent car one of these days...
