Sorry if this has been posted up before...
http://ninemsn.video.msn.com/v/en-au...&mediaid=29537 Notice how they try and suggest it's p-platers' fault that bloke was in a wheelchair, rather than the stupidity of a certain individual. If a man committs a murder, and most murders are committed by men, does that make every man a murderer? |

Its just another story trying to tell everybody and maybe teach P-platers to stop being stupid. There not saying it is every young drivers fault just some of them
RIP INNOCENT DRIVERS AND BYSTANDERS (not the stupid ones).

As long as there are dic*heads like this out there, the media will never be short of ammo to fire at P platers. Just a fact of life really.

I actually think that p platers are getting better than when i was one (1990)
I hardly ever see then driving like idiots in fact its the opposite usually. The worst drivers are all the old farts that don't indicate or stop or are driving so slow on freeways that they cause major issues. The second worst are the new migrants that have no idea but somehow got a liceance : I once heard a geolong lady saying (on radio) how she save petrol by only doing 70kmph on the freeway (was 110kmph zone at time) and could not believe all the people coming up behind her Pi55ed off.: Once complained to citilink for having to pay tolls for a traffic jam and was told "there was no problem with the roads its just that there are too many cars on them" that makes no sense at all : |

Yes I remember the antics of some P platers over 20 years ago, some while in the car and some as a bystander! It would be good if the media featured some of the grey haired d***heads driving their Mercs and Audis in Balwyn that I see while driving to work, talk about tunnel vision!
cheers Bill ( some greyhair)

GENERALLY I think P-platers are slowing down....sure there is still the occasional idiot who drives like a complete tosser, but there will always be people like that....
The main issue that I have with P-platers now versus say 10 years ago, is their (here's another generalisation) complete lack of roadcraft....they change lanes without checking their blind spots, they either fly down freeway on ramps with no idea what's approaching or crawl down at 70km/h and blunder out in front of traffic doing 100km/h. They can't turn left without swinging out into the next lane, and they clearly don't know how to adjust the angle of their drivers seats. No don't I suddenly feel like a grumpy old man!! |

:yeees: P platers are good drivers and people should stop generalising.......Its the migrants and old people that are the problem........ _ Really?
From one generalisation to another. Face it, there are twits on the road, many are P platers, migrants, old people, middle age, women, volvo drivers..........Its when P platers do something stupid they have the ability of doing it well! | [/url] |

The reasons the media goes on about P platers is because as a % of drivers involved in accidents, P platers lead the charge. There are so many issues around this it's not funny, but trying the excuse/reason "well, where else are we supposed to drive at high speeds" is a crock. P platers are effectively solo learners - does anyone really think they should be driving at "high" speeds. I certainly don't - not until they learn how to control a car at normal speeds first.
Think of it this way - you don't just go out and run a marathon. You start first in 1500m race, then work up to 5km, 10km etc. The way P platers act these days, they essentially want to jump right into the marathon equivalent, with no training in the shorter distance races. What happens is that they get some way into the marathon and end up only completing the shorter distance - in extreme cases, this results in deadly imact with another object (tree/post/car). P platers have earnt there reputation and it is only P platers who can act to rid themselves of it, and the driving examples I see every day does not tell me that it's getting any better.

well in the interests of p platers wanting to drive fast, why don't the governments of mst states, ie states that have race tracks, work out some sort of voucher system that will let p platers take their cars around a race track, make it affordable and safe then they may just get some of that energy out of their system, without having to worry about them killing innocent people? just my thought...

Why does the government have to provide every single thing for p platers - let them pay for track days themselves. Most tracks have plenty of public track days.

We have all been subject to generalistions and restrictions because of a minority. It isn't fair but it's something we all have had to "wear" at one stage or another of our lives. I can see the attitude of many P-platers on the road contributing to the problem. It might just be that the attitude against P-platers was there long before these deaths have occurred and the deaths have brought that out. I think the best that can be done is not to complain about the generalisation but to create a new and more positive image based on behviour on the road and peer pressure directed against those who are causing the attitude. If both you and your mate are on P's and he is hooning around and tailgating and not looking when changing lanes then give him hell - his driving is reflecting on you. |

In WA P platers have to have the P's for 2 years which obviously doubles the amount of them on the road so in turn makes them bigger statistics..So of course theres going to be more problems...

In NSW, there is a fantastic track called Wakefield Park. They are situated just outside Golburn. $90 for a 'speed off the streets' day. Run your car as hard as you want in a fairly safe track and good fun for the day. Agreed on the fact that 'drivers' should pay for this themselves, although I do believe some state gvmts offer these days to young drivers. What should be offered to L's and P's drivers is defensive driving courses. These should be a mandatory part of the L's process and subsidised by the gvmt. In NSW of course, there is 3 years of P's...so greatens the stats as well...oh well, that's just my 2c

I I have no problem paying money to test my car out, its these (boy racer) p platers that have no money and the wrong attitude.
What Im trying to say is that these drivers would rather use the street instead, so they dont have to spend money to go to a track. Anyone done a burnout on a public road?? Or did you go to the track for it?? |
