what do the QLD department of transport or whoever do about cages.....what are the limits.......whats it like for a 4 door

I think as of now, you are not allowed a 6 point roll cage - max 4 point... I don't think it affects fitted cages b4 the changes were brought in. Don't know what they can do - impound your car...

I think in NSW you are only allowed a 4-point ... maximum. Anything more is defectable. I don't think even an engineer's certificate can be passed for anything more than a 4-point cage.

this is relevant to me at the moment..
i have been given a roll cage, dont know if it is 4 point, but i am sure it is. Anyway it will be going into my XB if it is legal in Vic. Is it legal here?? |

had a XY rally car on full reg in Qld in 2000 with a 12 point nascar style cage got it rwc and went straight through reg dont know about now but it is still reg

Pardon my ignorance but why would they make roll cages illegal when they are fitted to improve the safety of the occupants?

well i looked into roll cages a while ago out of interest (eg not puttin one in my panelvan :P) and the way i understood it was that it needs to be fully padded when inside the cabin and that it doesnt not hinder entry and exit of the vehicle, meaning you cant have a intrusion bar @ window height, so going by that i would ASSUME that you would have to have one built as close to pillars and the floor as possible....
note: i checked up about this 6months ago so rules could have changed so it would be a good idea to ring the vehicle modifacation hotline for your state (queensland in my case) Last edited by Dav0; 06-06-2006 at 08:35 AM. Reason: m3 fale inglish...dats umpossible |

Here in WA you can't have one as they interfer with vision and saftey and a few other crappy reasons .

A mate has an 8 point, in his charger which is not registered atm (not finished) but an engineer is signing it off and it'll get reg, bolt in intrusion bars is the only compromise,it closely follows the pillars so you can barely notice it from outside the car and does not restrict vision.

My yellow XA was registered in QLD and it had the QLD RTA modification plate that stated the Roll Cage was allowed. It was a 4 point Roll Cage.
So when the car is up for sale, if someone in QLD wants to buy it and put a roll cage in it, I'll give them the plate.

My XB has a 6 point cage registered and complied by an engineer in NSW. They must not hinder the entrance or exit of the vehicle and must be padded from the shoulders up. The rear section of mine runs down the "C" pillars, but a friend tried to get his engineered and they told him if they did this that you can only legally have one person in the back seat, but if he ran the two pipes in the middle, that he can have two people in the back. Mine was engineered in 1992, so might have changed rules i suppose, but my certificate is unrestricted.
I also have my wheels, tyres, ride height, and racing harness engineered for my XB and the police have accepted this on several occasions, recently too. |
