Default Mums 2006 LX Focus seat belt stork broken

My mothers drivers side seat belt stork/latch button is broken & needs replacement. I have been quoted $65 from wreckers for a replacement. I have done this job to my wifes 2001 laser recently so know how & what needs doing. Problem is my brother inlaw is a spare parts manager for a car firm & he seems to think there could be a problem with a second hand unit not allowing the air bag to deploy in a crash (belt tension sensor?). Has anyone heard of this or are there any other issues I should be aware of ?? Thanks in advance

He is probably referring to the pre-tensioner which is wired to the base of the seat frame and must be refitted when the buckle is replaced.

Cheers
Russ

Thanks Russ
Is the pre tensioner part of the replacement buckle & will I be able to tell if the pre tensioner has gone off in a crash?

The pyrotechnic pretensioners for the driver and front passenger safety belts are incorporated into the safety belt buckle stalks.

Refer to the diagram below.
