Default How do people pay for their car?

In the marktet for a new car after my 95 mondeo seems to be on it's last legs. And just wondering how most people, or yourself pay for their cars?

Obviously there a lot of nice cars on the road, and I wondered what's the most common practice?

I traded Shells and Pretty coloured stones for mine. Got a great deal, and trhough in AC for some rare leaf patterns.

Sorry, just had to do it.

Partial Finance on ours. Easy way to do it and relatively low interest rates if you barter with them.

Personal Loan to begin with. Then I just paid at least twice the payment amount per month.

If you have the cash, buy with cash.

Finance for me, no other way I'd be able to afford it unless I saved up a for a few years. Then payed it off as quick as possible.

Mind you I'll never buy a car as expensive using full finance again. It's not worth it.

First car, 1978 TE Gemini. Bought it for cash. $2000 of my hard earned.
The EL was bought way back in 1999 on finance. I was only 21 at the time and couldn't save up $20,000 to buy it back then considering I'd only been working full time for a few months.
The 307 we bought on finance also.
The next one when we replace the EL will be on the mortgage, or hopefully, a work car provided by the wife's work.

Got a loan for my BA, though i paid a bit in cash and used the rest i had sitting there for rego and insurance. My fairmont i paid my dad half the purcashe price in cash, as thats the agreement we had at the time. If i were to do it again id save more cash up front and get a smaller loan.

Current rides the fpv is a chattel mortgage lease thru my business for tax reasons and my personal car the impreza paid cash. Will pay cash for the fpv when I buy it from my business as it's a keeper.Probably wouldn't own the fpv if my business didn't pay for it.

I saved up for about 5 years with nothing in mind to buy. (Was thinking probably a house deposit in a few years)
Saw the BA, and loved the shape. Decided I had to have one in Blueprint, and then went looking with Dad.

Bought it at Pickles Auctions, and then came back the next day with the cheque.

Dad lent me $12,000 towards it because he wanted to make sure I still had cash in my account in case there were any repairs required.

I paid him back $100 a week, direct debit from my wages.

Cars are the biggest drain of money you will have in your life, i'm not gonna make it worse by paying interest on top of the already huge depreciation that goes on with owning a car! Except for your own house, i have one saying. If you can't pay cash, you can't pay.

I strongly recomend paying cash. If you must borrow, borrow well below your limits so as to not get stuck with a car worth more than you owe. Also, avoid finance, go for a personal loan instead. With a personal loan, generally, it is unsecured. With finance, you can get into a lot of trouble if the car drops in value.

My car was only six thousand but even then I had to get a personal loan to pay for it. It's not so bad because after a year of paying 100 a week the loan was gone. ( I had a 1500 deposit ) It's all well and good to say save up but that might not be a possibility for some people. But then again, a lot of people here are middle aged and cashed up.

Cash only. Paying interest on a depreciating asset ( unless for a business) is just plain silly in my book. Live and learn.

Cash + loan from parents for 1st car. Cash for 2nd car. Next car will be funded by redrawing from the home loan - it will be a while before I'm back in the black as I'm only in my 2nd year for the home loan.
