I rang up before to ask about it , its 15$ extra on top of your current Plain, but you have to pay $100 for the new equipment For new router and Modem and so quick , the speed of t3 which is the fastest you can get , i'm hoping i can get hopefully get it.

I got the regular Optus cable and its very good and reliable. The infrastructure of the Optus cable stuff is good (if you can get it in your area).

I heard that the speed is based on suburb and connections

Example if there are 100 connections in the one suburb then you will have faster connection speeds than a suburb with 1000 connections.

It may not be "suburb" but more "area" or "section" but you get the idea.....

Hope this info is not correct but maybe something to look up and confirm or deny

I've been with Optus since 2002 and I've never had an outage. Their Cable Broadband is brilliant, but I'm on a Grandfathered plan (20/40, Downloads Only) and don't want a plan that counts uploads, so at the end of the year, unless Optus have a plan with some decent bandwidth, I'm off to TPG. This Superfast Broadband interests me greatly, however.

I'm still on the ancient 12/24gb plan back from yesteryear, we get 3 months of the year free and the cable in our area regularly pulls upwards of a couple of MB a second.

Yeah, but there's lots of potential having that. Internet is just one of them.

Agreed, and if people get past their short sightedness and look at the bigger picture (i.e. being able to video conference from anywhere, anytime, remote into work from home and run all your usual applications in real time etc etc) then they will realise that in reality, 4x faster is a joke compared to this :P

See if Telstra does your area, they now do a $139 month plan for their best home phone plan with 100GB of ADSL2+/Cable internet with a T-box (Or you can ditch the T-box and get it for $129 a month).

some people don't see that as high priority though, it's a luxury not a necessity. What good is faster broadband speeds when it's at the expense of a whole lot of things that the 50 billion could of been spent on. It's a good idea, but as mentioned, has potential to be a huge blowout

Speed sensors on your wheels that automatically report an infringement (I.e. burnout, speeding, drifting etc etc) and send the info via gps to the police. If the even is serious enough, it will also call them to your location.

Agreed - plus Telstra, Optus etc would have upgraded the existing services and billed the consumer (you want speed you pay for it as this Optus example shows) I would rather they spend the money on assisting those with special needs (refering to another thread in the bar) Or simply cut our taxes so we decide where we spend our money (am I correct 50 billion is $50,000,000,000 according to my super fast internet connection there are approx. 12,000,000 tax payers in Australia - therefore if the government doesnt go ahead they can give every tax payer a $4166 refund

i dont get it... you should have a surfboard 5100 modem..
just reboot it and should go strait to what ever speed they are offering !!

with telstra it was free upgrade just reboot as sent in an email..

we have jsut joined in on this deal

But we get 200gb, t-box arrives tomorrow, involves unlimited landlines and mobile calls (to any carrier) for 160ish

I dunno, I reckon I could use up 120 Gigs a month, especially if uploads are counted. I get 60 Gigs a month as it is, which I go pretty close to using. TPG's Unlimited plan sounds pretty nice right about now.

Telstra does as well I'm quite sure, at least in Melbourne anyway on their "extreme" plans. 30mbps plan.

Just be careful, I was gonna go with them until I knew who was running them. It seems if you get issues with them its a PITA. But if you get no problems then its a very good deal.

Signed up about a week ago... pretty impressed with it so far.

From the Optus test server (so best possible transfer speeds), I'm getting 85-90Mbps download - not too shabby. Uploads between 1.8-1.9Mbps.

Don't want to thread-jack, but the conspiracy nut in me reckons the TPG unlimited plan is a sham... I've tried numbers in several different areas (friends/family) in four states, and they all come back with a message saying the unlimited plan is not available... I reckon they've enabled it on one single exchange somewhere in the middle of nowhere, so they can advertise that they offer an "unlimited" plan.

Sure, but compare that outlay to say defence or welfare.

Yes however I dont have a problem with governments spending money on either (although welfare is very broad so its hard to comment, but when you read on this forum people supporting others with disabilities, I beleive the government has an obligation to assist) With defence all governments should protect thier borders just becuase we live in relatively peaceful time as present doesnt mean that will continue. Plus if we are sending people out in harms way (Afganistan) then we should be providing the best possible protection for them.

Telstra was responsible for holding back technology, they got fined by the ACCC a while back for holding back ADSL2+ on their capable exchanges until a competitor started servicing the area.

They also have a nasty habit on using RIMs in many estates, even new ones which means you can't get ADSL/ADSL2+, or if you can, its limited to 3mbps, then you get massive latency because of voice has priority and its congested.

Go through the last three years of whirlpool australian broadband forums and its only very recently Telstra has seemed to rise up.

Has anyone upgraded to the optus premium yet. I would love to know if its worth it since I am already on Optus cable. I am on the $99 fusion package.
I never go close to my 20 gb limit. I rang them. its a $99 one off fee and $15 per month. I would like to know before I take that step to see if t is worthwhile
