Default Newell Hwy back up tp 110kmh

Looks like all the local RTA workers employees will have to go back out and change all the signs back to 110kmh.

Why bother putting it back up by only 10km/h? RTA makes some rwally stupid decisions sometimes.....

If 10 k's isnt much they should have just dropped it to 90k's and everyone would have been happy! Damn amazes me how there is the the slightest hint of good news and people still find something to b**** and moan about.

Obviously you have never driven the full length of the Newell Highway.

That 10kph could equate to nearly 1 hour less driving time along the length of the highway.

But they bleet and moan about it yet don't have a licence to drive yet so have no idea about the road.

If you don't care how long driving takes, drive at half the speed limit everywhere for a week and see how much of a difference it makes. I mean it won't matter too much since you are not in a hurry.

If it takes you 15 minutes normally to drive to work, simply leave 15 minutes earlier. Not a big deal right?

Yeh it is only 10%

So just to show us how unimportant it is why don't you donate 10% of your wages to my charity, Variety and pay an extra 10% (15c/l) for your fuel.......

Or is that different?

But on the big picture I suspect there are some rather bitter and twisted little road nazis in RTA having had their adenda thawted.

I sure hope that the new government up here in March assassinate the 90k fairies that live at the botom of the DMR garden.....

Well .... whatever it is ... it's a start I guess.
will see if it filters through elsewhere ... Keepleft did mention that there have been a push for some of the limits that had been lowered ... to be brought back in-line with what it used to be.

This maybe a new pattern we see for the near future.

But ... I won't hold my breath.

This was BOF's promise. The RTA are resisting this big time, and this won't change much once the new Agency is set up.

Be even better if they made the road capable of maintaining the speed limit instead of dodging pot holes for 500 + Ks

are they new signs? looked to me they just stuck a 100 panel over the 110 bit. either way, someone gets to go change them back.

where's sudszy? apparently a few years back it was perfectly safe to do 110. then up until recently, if you did 110 (100 zone) then you were on a road to certain death, but now, its perfectly safe to do 110 again.

It wasn't so much the 100 limit (in a Truck we are limited to about that anyway,) it was that tourists sat on what they thought was 100. But with their speedo error it was usually only 95-98. This made life very difficult when trying to overtake.

Trust you to be picky Rob !! But you are right, all they did was stick a 100 sign over the top.

If they have any more changes the signs will sink from the extra weight!

I live in Parkes and I can tell u that 10kph makes a big difference in a car travelling between here and Dubbo, let alone the full length of the Newell. I drive trains but I do feel sorry for the truck drivers after the decision was made to lower the speed to 100kph. Most new cars speedos read approximately 5-7kph under the actual 100kph posted speed limit, (fit a GPS and u will agree with what I am saying) this means that truck drivers travelling between Melbourne and Brisbane who use this route on a regular basis are suffering much frustration with traffic that is inadvertently not doing the speed limit, and making it almost impossible for them to overtake to get back up to their speed limited 100kph.
And do not forget that of course it was NSW taxpayers money that has been wasted on this RTA debacle to firstly reduce and now rightfully increase this speed limit back to where it should be. One can only guess what this has cost.

that sounds nice, but most roads in NSW simply too bad condition to drive much over 100 anyway. especially around here.

110kmh/r,perfect speed for getting somewhere quickly.Apparently you can travel 110kms in 1 hour, allows one to organise their time correctly and be on time.

Well done Government.

I honestly Believe 110 is fine even up to 120 providing and only providing the roads are up to scratch (say free way etc). I normaly sit on on 105 - 110 when I can, and it is surprising the difference you can make in time doesn't seem like a lot but is is.
And I will agree with you aussie muscle most roads in NSW especially country road are not up to scratch.

correct me if im wrong but it goes through parkes from cowra for a small part? If so that road is horrible. Went through that way on Wednesday an it shouldn't even be 80 till they fix that road its left me with a nice bill of 3 new rim's. However for a truck i could see this 10kmph very welcome cutting an hour of an already to long trip

It weird because a few weeks ago you would of been killed at 110 on the road in question. But magic happened Now that is fine. But 120 is deadly.

Corrected - this is not the Newell - the best parts of the Newell are after Parkes heading south. Nerandera, West Wylong etc have long, good condition staights were anything under 110 becomes dangerous due to fatigue

It's only safe if we're told it's safe.
