Why do i click on a thread i have never seen and get taken to a post near the end ? should it not go to 1st unread ?

isn't the first unread post session based, not actual visit based, so if you have viewed the forum byt not a thread before, it will see your last visit time in the cookie and take you to posts made since your last visit time?
