I have an early Escort 1300 X flow (Eng# 681F6015CA and registered as such with 32 DFM Weber twin choke) powering a classic MGTF replica built in 1988-1989. Does the tag affixed to the bulkhead – 891M6015BA – indicate the engine has been modified to a 1600? I would welcome any clarification.

From my experience I believe the 1600 Block is taller, so its not a matter of internal parts.
the number the first number. measure the block height

Vesper is on the money with the block height.
This should be of use. https://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-g...ng-guide.html# BA denotes a capacity of 1600cc

Thanks for the quick reply. So, I take it the BA bulkhead tag is misleading and the CA suffix on the 681F is a 1300?

AA and BA are used on the later 711m blocks.
From what I've found the 681F 6015 likely came from a Mk2 Cortina, maybe do some digging in those circles... The only reference for 681F 6015CA I could find was from an expired ebay ad in google images, it was listed as a 1300. There was also a DA listed but had no details on capacity.

If you look at the top of the water pump, if it's basically level with the top of the block it's most likely 1300, if the block is about an inch above the water pump it's most likely a 1600.
