WOW, I thought the thread was damm funny until I realised it was serious. Definately go somewhere else & NEVER go to Ford. They prey on people who think they have to go there to uphold their Warranty. What area are you in? Surely someone on the forum site will be able to recommend someone.
I am betting you will get it down for half the price & a lot of the servicing you would be able to easily do yourself. Buy a workshop manual

OMG ! , excuse me a sec while i try to get my jaw off the ground ! ..lol. That's a whopping bill just for a service , and the prices they wanted for the other stuff is ludecrous too .
I wont say any more other than .. Find another reputable mechanic , get some advice from friends who have had good quality cheap services from their mechanics, doesn't hurt to ask for a quote before they start either ( for a basic servce ) ;) . Oh , it allready sounds like REDXR8BLOKE has someone better to refer you to aswell . gl .

Absolutely no way known I'd pay more than $200 for a service, let alone a grand.
Buy all the usual suspects and do it yourself. Oil, filters, just a general check that everything is still running well.

The Weird items totals : $443 So what else was done with the $557 balance ? Going to Ford servicing and paying high margins on their parts is a good way to have your pockets emptied while driving off !

Dont waste your time scanning the receipts. Take them into the dealership tomorrow and set them alight on the front counter! Seriously ,do it. This is how rip off merchants deserve to be treated.
I was quoted $1500 to change plugs and leads on my XR8. Bought the leads for $290 and cant remember what the plugs were but I think it was $14 for iridiums and did it myself .Took about 2 hours and saved about $1000. Find a private mechanic in your area familiar with fords and keep an honest bloke in a job. |

I work for a Ford dealer, the prices can be pretty shocking, although i think my work has a lower than average labour rate, goes for all dealers though, always pays to have a friend or relative whos a machanic, or become one yourself, like i did, but i wouldnt recommend it haha :

I was actually gonna mention you guys after the impressive results of your cars on the dyno on the weekend, but i got so dumb founded in that price that i lost the plot ! ..lol. Not having a go or nothing SR_AU, but you was at the dyno day yeah ? , would of been worth your while talking to Glenn while you was there . Even just the professionalism alone that day in the way they handled the event was almost enough for me to put good trust in guys like that , then when they put their cars on the dyno i was dumfounded , these guys know what they are doing ! , do yaself a favour and go see Glenn , I know anything i cant do to my car myself i'll be seeing G&D to do it for me ( and there will be plenty ! ) , just building my piggy bank back up again now ..lol Glenn ... lol , i'd love to see some good old big mickey thompsons on the rear of those cars of yours/ or something with plenty of tred , i recon they'd mono with the rkw they were pushing , awesome stuff ... I had a grin on my face all day after seeing your 2 factory cars on the dyno , very impressive . Oh also SR_AU , i think being a ford forum member you also get a discount at G&D ! ( i think , im not sure though , i cant remeber if that was just for the airbox , or for all stuff / u'de have to ask Glenn ) ...cheers .

I don't think it is necessary to bag ALL dealers? They are no more rip-off than small garages who don't even DO the job they have charged you for? or leave your car in a mess with grease marks everywhere. I don't work in the service dept but they don't sit around the table looking for better ways to extract money nor do they break parts just so the owner will have to pay more.
BTW, in the Parts area, You are paying for a warranty as well and the delaer doesn't make the profits that AFTER market parts people do? Look at Super cheap? who pays for the sponsorship for racing cars? you the Buyer of their parts. |

yeah i know what ya meant though and fair enough , true bout the bagging all dealers part , but grease marks etc can happen at any bad workshop big or small . Gotta remember too though that there is hundreds of Ford Service Centres , so in being like a franchise it is very easy for them to get a bad name all around just because a few of their service centres letting them down. I'de be glad to hear some 'good' comments from people who have had a service there / which Ford Service Centre in what area etc etc ( as they seem to differ alot ! ) , i love their cars - so it would be nice to be able to say something good aout their services too for once ! Cheers .

Grease marks ? 2 times with my Ford dealer my car has been presented to me with grease marks left on the gaurds and the drivers door ! I couldn't believe the the service advisor didn't cover his tracks after the 1st time ! As for margins in OE parts ? Come on don't give these guys fairy tales, I know being in the game some of the margins are huge ! some are thin. Warranty ? Stop looking through your Rose Coloured OE glass's Aftermarket products/parts carry warranty's just the same. Supercheap sponsership $$ for their Supercar program firstly comes from their suppliers in turn that is recouped from reatil sales but that's the same for all sponsership in racing so whats new in this ? Nothing. Cheers mate,I'll have to come in and say Hi one day.

These's no doubt that Ford dealers charge like wounded bulls and in my experience my local guy is better and cheaper. As far as the warranty on parts forget it, just another excuse to bump up the price...I've never with any car I have owned had to return a car due to a faulty part. Iam sure it happens but my point is that I don't believe it is not that common. This warranty and extra change linked to it is a shifty way to justify prices which simply cheat people.
lol Ford Knox couldn't work out what was wrong with my old XF Fairmont Ghia and suggested a path to possibly fix it (would have cost $$$$$), my mate who works for GMH yes you heard me, GMH, took one look and told me what was wrong and fixed it for me for a fraction Ford would have if the could find this problem which to a mechanic was really (it turned out) simple. Was Ford Knox trying to rip me off with extra work...I suspect so. Sorry but I don't trust them! How ironic, a Holden mechanic fixing a Ford that Knox Ford couldn't! |
