Help! My 6cyl AUII engine is making a high pitch howl and i dont know how to fix it. First i thought it was the fanbelt slipping so i used some soap on the belt. That only worked for a little while. So i Bought a new BOSCH belt and it still makes the noise. Please help. I dont want to take it to the mechanic because they'll just rip me off. Has anyone had this problem?

It could be the bearings on the a/c compressor, the water pump, the alternator etc. Take it to a mechanic - it is almost un-possible to diagnose a noise like that over the internet.

Yeah Good Idea. I have been driving it around a bit more and it seems to be going away sometimes. Anyway i'll take it to the mechanic.

Just get some WD40 and spray each of the pulley's in the center. Don't get the belt tho

its probably the top tensioner bearing which u cant replace unless you buy a a whole pulley! 26$ part from wreckers and it stopped my whinning noise. Could be your problem sound like it, could be any of them pulley bearings who knows listen closely if u can.

get a screwdriver and hold the handle to your ear then use the pointy end to rest on the NON MOVING parts of the pulleys.. if it sounds like its scraping/grinding/not good then thats the culprit
if its a huming like noise.. its fine

Cut a piece off your garden hose and use it like a stethescope to channel the noise.
Listen closely to each moving object. Dont recommend the screwdriver technique. I know of someone who ended up with one through his neck. Cheers |
