What Shocks Now?

Right, so i lowered my AUII XR8 on King SL and SSL.

Some said the shocks will need replacing after 5,000 - 10,000 km. Thats correct! They're pretty stuffed now... clunking away...

So now i have the decision on what replacement shocks i should get? I suppose i'll look at Pedders, but am mildly sceptical about a really rough and stiff ride. Consider Bilstein, but they're not cheap... essentially i'd like to know what would be a good combination with these King Springs as i will be keeping the springs.

Cheers guys, any personal experiences with a specific shock would be appreciated.

Munro GT Gas shockies seem to be pretty good. Both my sons have them in their AU's with a similar set up to yours and they ride smooth and corner good without body roll.

You can pick them up at AutoBarn for a reasonable price.

I am very happy with my Pedders SportsRyder gas shocks ... they aren't that hard at all ... I haven't lowered the ute that much ... but I drive a lot of rough roads where I live ... and it's not a jarring ride .... it really comes down to your spring rate too when it comes to ride quality ... not just the shocks though.

Hmmm... its amazing how boat like it has become since i first had it done. HAndled like a dream for the first 4,000 km/s, but i doubt the shocks are doing much at all anymore, the body roll has increased 10 fold. Definately want a solution that'll keep it as a good comfortable daily driver, but handle like it did before the Factory XR shocks lost their spark.

So my options so far are;

1. Monroe GT
2. Pedders Sports Ryders

Any aftermarket gas shock will be better than the factory shocks for sure.
I ahve had Monroe GT Gas in a previoius car ... and they were really good as well.

My last car I have KYB Excel-G Gas shocks and they were excellent too ... but on the small car that was 60mm off the tarmac ... it handled like a go-cart .... hee hee. Had a bit of a harsh ride ... but I liked that.

Depends how much you want to spend..

I recommend Koni's ~$880 or Whiteline ~$1000

Depends what you want out of ride and handling and $$$....

Monroe phhht no big deal, if your car has the genuine shock right now thats who made them in the first place.
Again made by Monroe but valved up more suited to the car is Pedders, I like a few others above use these and am happy.
If I was keeping the car longer Koni's would be the next step imo.

im running the KYB Excel G in my XR8 with kings SL springs. found them to be quite good so far.

Ive got Kings Ultra Low with Durashock shortened shocks back and front.
does the job very well and not the expensive.

Koni yellows..changed mine from monroe's and s**t what a difference,she is also lowered about1 1/2-2". They cost a bit more but well worth it.

Im going to step up from Koni shocks/kingsprings to all out whiteline soon.. so my stuff will be for sale..

also going from stock XR to kingsprings and konis was a HUGE HUGE difference, felt like a totally different car..

I saw a T1 TE50 in blue last wednesday night, was in my mates bright Red VY SV8 he was trying to catch upto you (if it was you) to try and bait you up for a run on the Great Western Highway on Thursday night but you turned off at St Marys..

If it was you, smick looking car, maybe we should organise a few AU boys to meet up one night. Me and my mates go out and usually have fun laughing at Rice at Krespy K's and Macca-nats lol.

Are these koni's that you purchased adjustable? Tossing up on what to put in the t3, there are the koni shocks that need to be removed from the car to adjust or the others which can be adjusted in the car.

Im not to sure which way to jump. I think i will put progressive coils in as well, im chasin good shock absorbtion around town say like a ba xr but when the car is loaded up through some twistys i want it to handle.

Hmmm... not sure if i can justify the $1200 at this stage... im leaning toward Pedders, any other happy campers from the pedders side? Especially for $500 installed.

yeah i think i seen that T-series around as well. there is another that cruises round my area of ersko fairly often... with a stupidly loud exhaust ahhahahahaha

Sorry dont think its mine,exhaust isnt done yet still standard with rear reso taken off.There is 2 others around the Penrith area same kinda as mine and a T2 that comes from Bringelly way.
Exhaust will be louder soon hopefully dont know if it will be stupidily loud but it will be damn close.lol.

These are adjustable but out of car,they were put in with 1 1/2 turns and shouldnt need changing for quite a while,and i will say its quite a stiff ride but not uncomfortable.I could be wrong here but i think the Koni yellows came out in the T3's.

Hmmm... just went to pedders, $1095 installed, just shocks... for that price i could get bilstein id say, springs and shocks installed on the ED XR6 was $1300 or so (bilstein). This is IRS, but i just thought that was pretty expensive for pedders?

Anyone used Lovell?

Koni externals wre around the 800-900 mark for front and from memory around 600 rear supplied not inclueding fitting,hence why i went for the yellows...

Koni reds need to be removed from the car to be adjusted - I believe these were fitted to the T3s. Koni Yellows are the externally adjustable type.. I'll be fitting these to my EF in the next few weeks $680 for the fronts and $520 for the rears.

Hmmm... im thinking more and more to go for the Koni. Heard some good comments and reccomendations from people i have spoken to. The difference between "reds" and "Yellows" is what? Just the fact that the yellows are adjustable without removal? Or are they a completely different shock for different purposes?

I don't know if i can justify $1100 for Pedders.

I gotta do this SOON! my rubber mounts have broken away from the shock mount and the rattling and noise is sickening. I really cant drive it around now without doing more and more damage i feel.
