It wasn't the smartest thing he did but gee talk about blowing it out of proportion.
http://www.foxsports.com.au/cricket/...-1227697526545 She could have put him back in his place at the time by giving him a witty rejection on live TV which would have been the end of it.

She shouldnt have to deal with that in the workplace, end of story. Doesnt matter if it was genuine or not.
Just like pushing the accelerator, you learn there is a time and a place for everything.

Too many people sit around waiting to be offended these days. I'm sure most of us go to work and put up with stuff we shouldn't, you know, being abused by customers etc. But hey, it's not in the job description, but we still put up with it...

It's absolutely pathetic the amount of indignation contrived by the offence industry in modern society. Especially ridiculous are those who sit outside the parameters of decent society and spruik about other people's 'offensive' words or behaviours; like that old man Penny Wong...

The difference here is that it happens so publicly. Should that make a difference, not really but it does. Same with all the gaffs politicians seem to make lately (remember the comment about Fiji or somewhere like that sinking from global warming..kind of funny but not from someone in that position) , its not hard to be mindful of what you say when you are on camera.
Its about setting examples, these guys are paid big bucks and for some stupid reason are "role models" for kids. Not to mention we have just gone/going through the whole media beat up of DV...which you can then draw a long bow and relate a general lack of respect. Dont get me wrong I had a giggle but it could have been saved for the bar or an off air comment. Wrong time. It would have been gold if he was shot down with a come back but you cant expect someone in her position to be ready for that, the guy is a clown and in this case I believe an apology is acceptable; but again it doesnt need to happen so publicly. But since he was happy to flap his trap then he should be man enough to apologize on air aswell.

A $10000 fine going to the McGrath Foundation!
Apparently he apologised to Mel shortly after, she accepted it (whether she accepted the drink invitation, I don't know...) so that should be the end of the story. Why wasn't there the same outcry when another cricketer tried to hit on her? I reckon most blokes on this site would have stuffed up asking a girl out at some stage in their life. |

I don't feel so bad now if that's how Gayle operates. Gives me hope...
Was pretty awkward to watch.

He was a knucklehead for doing it on camera - it wasn't funny, she was clearly embarrassed and he got what he deserved. If he wanted to ask her out or pay her a compliment he could have caught up with her later off camera.

I've tried not to read about it but has she actually come out and said she was offended?

What was Gayle's reaction to Mark Howard's quip about Gayle's possible groin injury being from overuse?

Posted this link in the cricket thread too. This is basically the same thing but from a female reporter on sunrise. No one gave two hoots cause when a woman does it its funny but when a man does it its inappropriate. So sick of everything being beat up out of nothing these days. The media and this pc world does my head in. |

For a country which espouses cultural diversity and awareness it is patently clear this is not the case. Mr Gayle's behaviour may well be culturally acceptable from where he is from. He said nothing derogatory or insulting. The conduct of Peter Dutton, Minister for Immigration and his sms to a journalist, and the conduct of Jamie Briggs, now former Minister of Cities and Built Environments, and his conduct in Hong Kong in November last year is disgraceful and sexist.

Difference between this "work" situation happening in a coffee shop vs on live TV is the coffee shop doesn't sell anymore coffee by blowing it out of proportion, slow news day so lets give this some legs is a sensible strategy.

Everyone made out like its offensive, come on FFS ! I think he was passing a compliment . She blushed because she saw it as a compliment. Maybe a little flirty, but a compliment all the same. Lighten up world. Im sure we need to get back to the real world. Where you can say you have lovely eyes with getting an harassment claim againts you. I didnt find anything in that, that was disrespectful, & Im sure she didnt either, its sells papers & give the jurno's something to talk about..

Surely there is a difference between doing this in the workplace (they are both getting paid) and trying to pick up/pass a compliment in a more appropriate situation?

So someone flashes themselves at work and it is considered inappropriate, yet if they do that at a non workplace it can be seen as being ok? Not sure I see why the location makes any difference to the level of offence taken by the recipient. The problem with this story is that other people in the media (dare I say it, but mostly females) took offence on someone else's behalf and suddenly it is a news story about how poorly men behave towards women in public! Please......
