Hello guys, got an issue.
Have received multiple letters from Just Car Insurance mentioning they won't be covering new policies in 2017. Unfortunately I have 6 cars insured with them. I need an insurance company that will cover modified cars for daily use. Who do you guys use or given the amount of cars I have, is it worth going to a broker? Thanks. |

Does it mean they are closing?
In the letter, did they make any recommendations or refer you to another company?

They said AAMI will put forward a quote to take over, but they're extortion rates, was originally with them when I first started driving.

I thought they'd recommend AAMI, as I think AAMI owns Just Car.
Maybe check out this comparison table: http://top10modifiedcarinsurance.com...car-insurance/

If you think AAMI are expensive then you will be scraping the bottom of the barrel I reckon. The only ones cheaper than AAMI for me are the somewhat dodgy one like Coles, Youi, Budget direct etc.

Just Car was on average about $1000/year cheaper per car and they cover mods. |

Shannons will cover mods but you'll have to haggle over the agreed value. After much back and forth I managed to squeeze $11,500 out of them for the missus modded and accessorized 08 BFIII wagon. Still won't cover replacement cost but it was the best deal I could get.

If you are old enough to qualify for Apia, I have found them very easy to deal with, ( and they speak Australian ) or Shannons ( they speak Australian also ) will negotiate with premiums and coverage.
(Tried dealing with EnergyAust today about my account, the nearly non-English speaking phone rep had difficulty understanding the meaning of "nothing" when I tried to tell her about the non-existant communications I had had from that company) |

I have all my cars insured with AAMI (my typhoon has aftermarket exhaust etc).
My wife recently had a bingle in her Mazda. To deal with they were great... BUT the repair job on the car (has been back twice now for two full re-sprays on the side of the car) is woeful at best.. Maybe im just too picky but i shouldnt be given the car is a year old and has 12,000kms on it, this is our first claim ever with them. We are diamond members so get a fair bit of discount etc but think ill be changing soon... I got a quote with shannons just recently and it wasnt too bad.. My advise, just go with whoever give yous choice of repairer!

All you can is ring around.
I find Insurance companies no longer reward loyalty, in fact it's just the opposite. I'll find the best value (not necessarily the cheapest) and two years down the track premium goes up 20 -30% I had budget jump 50% for no reason, no claim, so back at NRMA as of last year... It pays to shop around |

NRMA is fast and easy to deal with plus they have the option of letting anyone drive and your still get covered even if they have no licence I found Shannons to be a bit to picky lol

I had my FGX XR8 and PX Ranger with SGIO for a couple of years with loyalty discount. The XR8 went up to $750 this year and the ute was $320. I redid the quotes online and I ended up getting both done for $750. Go figure. So now I am currently going through all my insurances. It seems as though they rely on people just renewing and jack the prices up.

I have flip-flopped insurance on my XR6 over the years between NRMA and GIO, depending on who is cheaper for any given year. The latest change was over to QBE as they popped up as the cheapest option. As the XR6 is slightly modified there have been no problems getting a policy as the only criteria for all companies is that the car is 'roadworthy and registered'.

On line quotes are usually cheaper than renewals ....... but ........you are then classed as a new policy holder even though you may have been with the same company for years.
Apia used to match their online quote on renewal, but I think that the bean counters have wised up on this, and they won't do it anymore. And ... for some reason, in NSW, your CTP is allied with the length of time you have been with your Comprehensive insurer, and being a member of the NRMA, the CTP price can increase for who knows what reason accordingly. |

I would not make any assumptions about what Shannons or AAMI will offer until you get the offer, as their profiles will change under the new structure Not saying it will be good or bad, but it will def be significantly different to the AAMI that was run concurrently with Just Car |

I just did an online quote with QBE, who i'm currently with, and it was about $350 MORE than I'm currently paying. The premium has actually dropped a little for 2017.
That's market value, and I'm guessing market value will have dropped from when I insured it. Claiming with them is through a foreign call centre, and if you don't call them up every couple days to check the status of your claim they won't do anything with it. Admittedly the first claim was after a massive hail storm and they would have been over run. The second more recently, they didn't bother calling up the other driver who had admitted fault and wanted to charge me an excess. Got it sorted pretty easily though. |

Yeah I got a letter a little while back too. Lucky for me my policy is until August quite a bit of time to look around.
I won't be getting an offer from AAMI considering I have a WRX which they wouldn't cover me before. I'm 30 now and not 19 so hopefully should be able to get cover elsewhere. Might even have another car by then. Pretty crap if you're a young bloke though because they were pretty much the only company that would insure me back then. They charged a fortune though. |

Well not quite Shonky, (in my experience anyway). I shop every year as was said in an earlier post, there is no loyalty. And over the years I have found that if you online first, then phone them and say something like "is that the best you can do?", they usually come up with a better price to secure your business. When I had an F 6 I found Ryno beat the others each year. Now with an ordinary car I get the best deals from Budget Direct.

With Just Car when I hit a Roo I just dropped off my car to the panel shop around the corner and they organised everything, I just had to pay my excess.
There wasn't any questions about the claim or anything. Hopefully I can find another company as easy going. |

My parents are with Shannons and have been for years including my dads modified XP falcon and can't fault them one bit.
I'm with RACV myself, was cheapest and when talking with them they didn't care what modifications I had on my car as long as it was roadworthy and legal. They were all so the only company that would insurer me for being under 30 that wasn't going to cost me $1000+ a year on a 2011 xr6 ute.

Hi the mrs and I had insurance with apia for about 7 years with an A1 rating
well the premiums went up every year and the agreed value went down I was paying $350 for the Territory Ghia and $350 for my BA Ghia and also evry year plus$450 for home contents ($119000) insurance its a QLD housing home so contents only also we had 3 policies with them anyway I checked around and got the two cars fully comp and the contents of $119000 all for less than half of apia prices from Suncorp the strange thing is Suncorp owns apia weird isnt it on a side note I have my midlife crisis car a Triumph Stag with an agreed value of $15000 own repair shop and keep the car if written off through Ryno and its only $20 per month thanks John |

When I got the G6ET, I found Progressive to be the cheapest, by a significant margin. And that was with cheaper excess, and a very good agreed value.

This. Loyalty means bugger all these days. For my ride, RACV were far and away the cheapest premium, highest agreed value, lowest excess and choice of repairer. Every year at renewal time, I still shop around though.

Also remember he is in vic, NRMA, SGIO don't operate in vic.
I'm pretty sure RACV cover cars with mods as long as the car is roadworthy and legal and all the rest of it. My advice go online read the companies PDS and choose the insurance that best suits your needs. Never base on price because the cheapest isn't always the best and policy's can be very different from company to company. If buying because the cheapest policy you may find when you need to claim your left with a bad expirence. |
