Default Qld increase $150 drivers licence

Queensland
residents draw to the attention of the House the Government's proposal
to double the cost of Queensland Drivers Licences to more than $150,
making Queensland licences the most expensive in the Nation. These
changes, along with hikes in vehicle registration costs, the new State
...fuel tax, and above CPI increases for tolls make Queensland the most
expensive State in Australia to be a motorist.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to oppose this massive increase in Queensland Drivers Licence charges.

this needs to be filled out tonight as 12 oclock is the deadline for this petition. this is a gov petition.

I don't think a 4c per day increase is a lot to ask for to bring our licenses out of the dark ages. A car is a luxury not a neccessity!

just getting a little rediculas that's all irish. but you dont have to sign it

Rego costs are high but it is cheaper to pay by the year. Comparitively the cost of licenses is a drop in the bucket.

We get cheaper license and rego and they make the difference up on speed cameras, the motorist has become the State Governments cash cow..
We pay $620 for 12 months rego on a 4 door car this includes compulsory 3rd party insurance, was pleasantly surprised when told my FG XR6T Ute is $100 cheaper @ $520 a year becuase its a 2 door..

not that im a speeder anyways. we have fair share of speedcams these days also, not that it concerns me.
but these hikes are killing us average joes who want to collect cars and drive them.
I have 4 yer its getting too hard. but anyways some people may be happy to pay these hikes, but if not the petition is there to sign before it closes tonight.
I only found out about the petition today. so thought i would share here

Spooly, yeah i have a mate who recently came up here and was loving the significant lack of speed cameras and police compared to Melbourne.

$1k for 12 months for a V8, $800 for a 6cyl, yeah that's pretty reasonable...

It all adds up, add in the rising cost (isn't it something like 50%?) of electricity because blight ****** that up too, the privatising of other govt owned services that will rise the cost of living. Not to mention the stuff up that is the water reform, Gold Coast, Logan and Redlands forming Allconnex, 20% rise there. No rise is wages (which seem to be lower than our southern couterparts)

It is becoming too expensive to live in QLD.

I understand about putting up a fight. I also believe the more expensive car travel is, the less nimrods I will have to compete with for road space! My current mustang rego $960 a year x 5 years = $4800. Fuel ~ $3000 x 5 years = $15 000+. Maintenance $1000 x 5 years = $5000. License = $150 for 5 years.

funny thing is we here in geelong ( vic ) only pay $577.90 for it all and we are only 75ks from cbd to cbd

and if you have a health care card it is only $484.20 for 12 months inclusive of all insurance **** like tac and duty ect

Not sure how $150 for 5 years is the most expensive in the nation .... when it costs more for 5 years of licencing here in NSW.

If you think it costs a lot to live in QLD ... come and live in Sydney for a bit.

It's not even compared to Canberra. We pay $151 for a 5 year licence.

The more expensive car travel is, the more unlicenced drivers taking chances driving unregistered cars will be on the roads.
Or combos of both. Theres already a motsa of those now all over Australia...

So when unlicenced and unregistered Joe wipes out your pride and joy tryin to escape pursueing police cars for not stopping for whatever reason and causes you, your passengers, or yr kids or partner injury or writes off your car you will happily sit there n cop these price hikes...

Hell No...!!! Some day, someones going to have to realise that once we are all bled dry and theres no more money left, some are just going to stop driving, and others will take their chances and roll the dice. The first one wont do the govt any favours in several ways, and the second will cause a stir when someone important is killed because of it. It will be only the rich who will afford to drive and register any cars at all.

I think the price increase for the licenses is due to them being some new 'fancy' license that was totally unnecessary. Water rates have just increased aswell. The rego on my xr8 ute is $1048 for the year.
You do have to wonder if the QLD government is doing it to slow down population growth as the infrastructure up here cant keep up. I know that sounds like a stupid conspiracy theory but it really does seem like there has been price increases on most day to day costs over a really short period of time.

I can't believe Queensland voters keep Ana Bligh's government in power. Look at the mess Labor has created in both QLD and NSW. Yet they stay in power. It's only going to get worse. You guys really need to do something about it come election time. Feds included.

Can we keep the thread about the pricing of licenses, if the thread turns into a political discussion it will be closed.

Mines $520 a year because I live in the country, plus discount with health care card brings mine down to $430

[QUOTE=smacxr8]I think the price increase for the licenses is due to them being some new 'fancy' license that was totally unnecessary.[/QUOTE/]

I have also just renewed mine for the $75 fee. The new one at $150 is supposed to be some sort of biometric one. Not sure what that entails, maybe has a chip in it or a DNA sample or some such, but for the price, I wish it were interchangable, or at least linked, to all other forms of ID we seem to need.eg I don't understand why ,if I have a $150 bio-metric licence complete with photo/chip/DNA, I still have to fork out hundreds of dollars on a passport, or any of the other pieces of paper we all seem to carry around with us that took an initial "100 points of ID" to obtain?

Yep that bio metric thing rings a bell and thats a good point you raise about linking. However the chances of that are slim it would mean a loss of revenue if you did'nt have to fork out for the rest.

And as Terry O'Gorman said...'we're sleepwalking into having no privacy at all, with what they're doing....' or words to that effect. When you look at it though he is right all these 'little' changes are just a quiet way of getting to the big change they want.

Just look at what has happened here with the 'Go Card' the coppers are using info from that to track your movements.
