Well I finally got to Tassie and hired a car (rent a bomb) and toured from Hobart to Strachan ( Franklin River Cruise awesome), Cradle Mountain, Launceston where I went to the National Motor Museum, then back to Hobart and did all the touristy stuff, Pt Arthur, Birny Island, Salamanca Markets etc.
The west coast is pretty special. Anyway spotted a few nice Fords about the place. Spotted at Hobart Marina First arrival for Targa Tasmania The Ford display at the Launceston museum Stumbled upon a Hot Rod cruise at Richmond, nice Ford pick up. On the car ferry going over to Birny Island, old fellah in his XA Fairmont, all original and a bit rusty. Spotted in the queue waiting on the return trip to get on the ferry. Big 4WD Effy towing a boat. Spotted outside the Mercury newspaper house, looks like it might have been a Sundowner once.

My god, I live in Hobart and have never seen any of those cars, and you show up for a holiday and get all of those!! The XY GT going to be in Targa? Where were the Targa cars?

EDIT: disregard, read the wrong caption to the wrong picture.
They have "ok" displays in the auto museum, for the most part it's the same cars over and over again but it's a good thing to see once in a blue moon anyway. If you are lucky, you might stumble in there whilst Chas Kelly has his Ferrari F40 on display. Last edited by nipper575; 28-01-2010 at 11:23 PM. |

Sorry guys my bad, the captions under the pics tell the story. The Gossy,GT and Shelby were at the Launceston museum, the stang with the silver chequers is in the Targa and was at Wrest Point in the car park as bold as brass.

Mmm, nobody notice the sticker on the bumper of the Effy?
Had a whole lot on the back too about saving jobs, shoot a greeny etc. Looked like a real "Good ol' boy's" pick up, was just missing the gun rack.

There are a heap of early Fords in a museum at Wynyard on the north coast - you will have to go there next time! (link)
Dad & I went over there last April in his XT GT and did the proverbial lap. Came across a bloke in a small town n/e of Launc. who had a Lotus Cortina and V6 Capri, also saw a nice old XY ute (GT rep) in same area. |
