Can anyone spot the difference...
Exhibit A Exhibit B Well, if you havent guessed by now, the T5Z was replaced with a T56. :o I went up to Mal Wood's on Thursday to do some work for a couple of days. Friday morning Ben (absolute gun with gearboxes) set to work on my car. Within an easy 40 mins, the tailshaft, gear box, clutch and flywheel, pedal and clutch cable was removed. Ben then set to work building a T56 from scratch. This is the scary part, as he just puts the damn thing together, all 11ty billion parts. They fitted an AU sandwich plate and then on with the old flywheel and clutch. In goes a dummy box (just housings) to measure up for the tailshaft length. The front half of the tailshaft (i have a 2 piece) was made shorter for the extra length of the new gearbox. A small section of the trans-tunnel was cut as the shifter is positioned slightly further back. BA Pedal Assembly... Clutch feel is fantastic. They had to fit a new clutch as the fingers on my old pressure plate extended too far. I now have an ACE Option 2 clutch. Good for 240RWKW. Its essentially exactly the same as what I had, but the fingers of the pressure plate are suited for concentric slaves, instead of throw-out bearings. They also fitted braided lines, and a remote bleed line. Makes bleeding the clutch 11ty billion times easier, and no messy clutch fluid in the bellhousing. The centre console fits perfectly is its original position. The shifter is a smigeon closer to the driver. I also had a nasty short shifter made up. The shifts are spasticly close. I VERY EXCITE!!! Big thanks to Mal Wood Automotive... Absolutely awesome work!!!

the first four ratios in the box are nearly identical to what i previously had (T5Z Close ratio gearbox). 2nd is a little taller, 3rd is by a bee''s skrotum. I cant notice any difference between them though. 5th and 6th are awesome. I finally have something in between the highway gear, and now an even better cruising rpm. Its doing 1880rpm at 100 k's.

wow, thats fantastic work! It looks like Ben really knows what he is doing. I actually spoke to him myself before I put the 5 speed in my car. I would have liked to do this aswell, but I just couldn't justify the costs. I am never going to have the amount of power you have, so it just wasnt worth it.
What are the benifits of going to a T56, other than strength? Is it just having an extra gear for freeway driving, or is it quicker through all the other gears? Looks great, you must be stoked! Evan |

Sweet as, have you got a BA shortened gear stick yet?
I got mine of ebay and you can see how short it is here: It's also straight which makes gear changes feel alot better!
