Just saw it on 10 in the middle of 'Offspring.'

I love it. Pretty much saying 'Compare our cars because we have no doubt they'll come out on top.' They mentioned the technology of modern Fords, showed a clip of Voice Activation on the Mondeo then cut to the 7-Seat Territory. It ended with 'Ford, feel the difference.'

My friends, this is the beginning of something great. One Ford is finally giving us some fruit in Australia, this advert was pretty much like the US ones. I'm excited. It was balsy, personal, exciting and promoted the Territory well. And unlike the Holden adverts, it was honest, it didn't wreak of lies. Christ I'm excited...

They also changed the print GT 335 ad with Alan Moffat. Instead of using the rear facing 4WD ride height shot they now use the very sexy photo as used in the banner. Big improvement.

The TV ads are very "Holden" in style. But I'm sure that will make some people very happy.

Without looking at the links above
Disappointment was my first reaction when I saw a new ford ad on tv.
I don't recall which ad it was, I was too disgusted to care.

The message I walked away with...

Before I buy a better quality car (nfi why I thought Holden), compare it with an inferior Ford

edit: it definitely wasn't the G6 ad. If it was the Terri I don't remember it.

Interesting how for the Territory ad they mention it's the Territory TS LE, while for the Falcon ad, it's the 50th Anniversary G6, with no mention of the name Falcon.

G6 doesnt have Falcon badged on it or have it mentioned anywhere in the branding anyway.

Exactly. Old Fairmont ads didn't mention them being Falcons. Same thing here.

Nice ... about time the Marketing department actually working for their paypacket.
The last decent Ford ad I remember seeing was a BFII Fairmont GHIA ad.

Good concept, a little rough around the edges perhaps. Personally the closing remark "compare it" left me with an awkward feeling, compare it to what? If the closing line was "We welcome comparisons" I think I would have liked it more. I know I'm nit picking now, but I don't like the voice they used either.

Other than that, good ad considering what we're used to from Ford.

I saw it yesterday and thought they were brilliant. They were informative, the film was bright and enjoyable, even the music was good.
What was a brilliant strategy is the fact that Ford weren't doing the parochial thing like Holden, nor were they doing the hard sell. What they were doing was showing exciting imagery of what they have available away from their "power" thing, and inviting customers to just have a look at Ford and compare. Fact is, Ford don't need to win the faithful over, they need to win the ever increasing plethora of Toyota, Volkswagen and Holden buyers. This ad went a very long way to making the average, non-enthusiast car buyer consider Ford as an alternative, in a rather enticing way.
Bravo Ford marketing; you've done a spectacular job.

How about "Compare the quality of a 2011 Fiesta with that of a 2010 Fiesta that will probably be for sale at the same price."

Oh dear. In that case I can see them saying: "Compare the cheap hard plastics of our new Thai built Fiesta as opposed to the soft-touch, quality feel plastics of last year's Fiesta"

And the econetic will still be german built i thought, so that could be interesting if someone looks at both at a Dealer (unless the German one goes downmarket).

I hope Holden got royalties for those adds,

The shots, the styles, the soft voice-over, the mentioning of specific user-friendly features, the close-ups on people faces, and the closing discussion on a particular variant - all were ripped straight from the Holden adds.

Its pretty pathetic Ford's best marketing is a straight rip from a competitor. Still the best ads Ford have done in ages. I wonder if they had been seeing what was being written in these forums to come up with these new ads....?

While my feelings are not quite as harsh as yours Brazen, one of my first thoughts was "this seems similar to the advertising that Holden recently ran".

In their own right, they are good ads and i enjoyed them. Holden seem to be on a winning formula with their style of ads, so i can see why their competitors have attempted to emulate them slightly. Many successful ad campaigns have been run by delivering a very similar ad to their competitors, thereby in a way gaining greater association with their product whenever their competitor advertises.

Its hard to explain, but you kind of 'borrow' the perceptions, aura, history, etc of a company. Kind of like the concept where you have Sony and Soni hardware. If that makes sense...

I would say they have come on here and had a good read of our comments and tried to make ads that replicate those comments somewhat.

If you can't beat them, join them. The fact Ford has chosen to take this approach to their advertising shows how effective it is. To say they copied Holden is a little harsh, while they do echo the Holden ads in many ways, this type of advertising has been around for ages. If Ford copied anyone, it was Ford US. Look at the type of advertising they have been running for the past few years, it's exactly like this.

If anything this is a strong reflection of 'One Ford' and Australia seems to be the next inline to adopt the marketing strategy that is 'One Ford.' The 'Feel the difference' tag-line and the new website, the way the Ford stand at the motor-show was set out, very Ford US.

I also believe this is more basly than the Holden adverts. Let's hope we get a Mondeo, Fiesta, Focus and a Ranger advert like this.

Excellent post.
I remember the ford ads with the fingers, everyone complained and said they should be like holden ads. Then ford finally make good ads which are designed to win over the non committed buyer, and again, the same people find fault. Is it just me or are some people never satisfied?
Either go into marketing for yourself and pitch to ford a tried and tested formula, or get off the pot.
