I'm really tempted to have a look at this. Surely it's not a stat. right off.

Would be an awesome car to get cheap and spend a few grand fixing up. any estimates assuming that rear axle and drive is heavily damaged. My xr6 was a repairable write off before I bought it. Somehow one of the wheels fell off. She's fine after it was fixed. no worries at all.

Doesn't look that hard to fix depending on how much damage is underneath. From the picture looks like you might need to change the most if not the whole rear end.

Seems like very light damage to have written it off.

The panel damage is small, its the mechanical damage to the rear suspension that I would be worried about.

Its listed as heavy panel damage, Id be assuming the panels include floorpan.

Very suspicious, why would they write it off if it looked like that??? Their is definately more to this story. Any one close to the pickles crew want to have a look underneath?

Might not look like to much damage , but how much cant u see . You would have to have a good sqizzy underneath .
Take my wifes car for example might not look much but $14,500 to fix .

After a mini meet, earlier this year, a group of us witnessed an EB that lost it in the wet and went side-on into a gutter. At first glance it looked ok. But both the right wheels and axles were stuffed, as was the diff. What amazed me though was the twist in the car. The doors no longer lined up right and the bootlid was pushed tight against the guard. These are things that wouldn't have shown up in photos, but close-up were obvious (particularly since the drivers door hardly opened). So this is what can happen in these cases.

The insurance companies would rather write the car off if it has major mech damage that could became a headache for them. Its easier to count their losses than have a ongoing problem. I sold a mint AU ghia that substained a front crash by the new owner by someone going through a redlight and they wrote the car of as it had K frame and suspension damage. I thought they would have been able to fix it. No air bags went off either

There's not 14K worth of damage to that.

We have a pretty new Ford transit as a work van and the other day someone fikcked up a brick on the road and hit the front of it. smashed the grill and fiberglass surround and damaged the air con cooler. No panel damage at all, end price to fix was $5000 i couldnt believe it.

You are right they gave me a cheque for $18,400 and i walked away. The floor pan was creased from the back to just under the front seats ( the wife just lent on the car in front when the astra hit her and as her car was front down bum up the astra went under the back of her car )
Was very surprised when asked do u want us to fix it or white it off , was up to me so took the money and bought another car . Just had its 30,000ks service 2 days before too

The prices being charged for smash repairs are pretty amazing these days IMO. About a year ago someone reversed into our Laser (towball through the A/C condenser) and the quotes for repair ranged from $900ish to about $4000.
