I'd vote sometimes.

All the basic stuff I do at home ... the harder stuff I get done at my mechanic ... or they let me use their tools and hoist and let me go for it ... if i have a question ... I ask and they give me a hand ... but i try and give everything a go.

But as mentioned ... some things I leave for them to do (give them a hand with it though just to have a bit of a go myself).

I am far from being able to do everything myself ... but over the years have learnt a hell of a lot.

I tend to get a mechanic to service it and fix all the problems. I don't trust my mechanical knowledge. I can pull things apart easy enough, but getting it back together is the problem.

Did the last servie totally myself.

Have mate who's a Ford mech, so he checked my work and got my Book stamed. Major Service i get him to do at the shop.

Do pretty much everything myself. I get paranoid about other people working on my car. Only ever paid to have the exhaust done.

I do my Au wagon(except auto trans service) and my RS2000 my self,but our Subaru Outback gets done at a local mechanic(not subaru) so I can keep the service book stamped and up to date,but I check there work anyway.

I drive an hour away from where I live to the area I used to live just to get my mechanic to do whatever needs to be done (except when I thought I could change the radiator myself recently - haha)..

I trust my mechanic 100% as he knows he will have his fingers chopped off and other things if he hurts my baby (or puts any damn oil marks on her)...

Get all my servicing done by a shop. Don't have the knowledge or time. Plus I'm not responsible if anything is damaged. I've picked up my TX5 twice and brought it back because something was wrong or something was damaged and the guys fixed it right up.

Once the waterpump went and coolant poured out everywhere so they only charged me for the water pump, not the coolant and labour because it wasn't picked up at the service, and once is it was misfiring and I brought it back and they replaced a lead straight away even though they had to get parts and it was past closing time

Do it yourself, and you know the job has being done properly.

It isn't hard, grease and lube everything, tighten it all up, while the oil drains.

Up on ramps and check the necesaries underneath.

Nice quality time, 2 hours, every 15k.........

im a mechanic ata ford dealership so i service and do watever ri have to on my own car cos i got hoists at work and stuff.boss is a bit funny about letting mechanics in on saturdays so i usally do it after work.

lol major stuff i leave to my mechanic, but most stuff i take it to the workshop on a saturday and whack it on the hoist (or do it at home)..... mechanic reckons the more i do myself, the less he has to worry about

I voted yes. Mainly because I can. I have all the tools and stuff at home to be able to service the car easily so why not?

Eamon (Cobra) my partner, is a mechanic at a Ford dealership, so he does my services and any other work. I dont do it myself, and didnt before I was with him, because I dont really have the skills or the tools to do it myself. To me a BA engine is a rather complicated thing, different to the old Cortys etc I worked on with my Dad as a kid....

I have been a mechanic all my life and i will be buggerd if i will do my own cars. The only one i do do is the XR, as for the Fairlane thats what the dealer is there for. Bj

its going on 10 years old now :monkes:

I'm a fitter and turner by trade, and I stopped taking the car to a mechanic in 3rd year of trade because I felt embarrased paying someone else to turn a spanner for me (plus I'm cheap). Haven't started a job I couldn't finish yet- if you have a service manual and a brain you can normally sort it out after some head scratching. Sometimes I really wish I had a hoist though...

I do what i can only because i believe they charge to much for something that you can do yourself.
Oil change and filter plugs leads radiator coolant Air filter you might pay well over $200 to have a mechanic do this. They charge $99 for a oil change and tune

Do it yourself for around $100.

A basic serves is not to hard, But when it comes to tunning and ECU's i get someone to take care of that for me.

On my old Xp falcon yes i'll do the full service myself, only cause I dont trust any other barstard with it!...but on my new Mazda Ute I'll take it back to the Dealer for the service so the log books are kept up to date...
