Default Australian Muscle Car Sale

Hope this is not a re post

Taken from NZ Stuff website

Link http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/37...million-Holden

A Cairns car fanatic is being forced to sell his multi-million dollar collection, including Australia’s most expensive car.

A multi-million dollar collection of 25 rare Holdens, Fords and Chevrolets will go under the hammer on June 7, apparently to pay off debts.

Included in the sale will be a 7.0-litre V8 Monaro concept car that reportedly fetched a whopping AU$920,000 when the owner purchased the car in 2007.

It's one of just two HSV HRT 427 Monaro coupes, the owner of which reportedly turned down an offer of AU$3 million (NZ$3.69m) for, according to Queensland newspaper, the Cairns Post.

Pickles manager Steve Allen says people should be ready to muscle up and get ready to bid on a piece of automotive history - particularly on the HSV 427.

"It's anyone's guess what that's going to make," says Allen, and although he's unable to say what the car could fetch, it's fair to suggest it could well be a profit made on the day.

"It's one of only two vehicles that were built, and one, as I understand it, is still with Holden in their coffers somewhere in the factory," says Allen.

"In my time, I haven't seen a collection of Australian muscle cars quite like this. [Pickles Auctions] certainly has never had a collection quite like this," says Allen.

Some of the other specimens on sale include the first ever 1996 model HSV GTS/R with only 80 kilometres on the clock (Build plate 001), and a 1988 HSV Group A Walkinshaw with just 55,000 km's (Build plate 003).

Other rare offerings include: several Monaros, both early HK-HX models and six new-generation Commodore-based models; a 1978 XC Ford Cobra; a 2007 Ford GT Cobra, and a 1956 Chevrolet Belair.

"This collection is priceless with some rare cars to be auctioned," says Allen. "For discerning buyers it is an opportunity to own part of Australian motoring history and is already attracting strong interest."

The collection belonged to Shawn "Chooka" Ryan, and the cars are up for auction under the instruction of the receivers and managers of Ausco Firestop (NQ) Pty Ltd and Ryan Group Holdings Pty Ltd and other financiers.

The Cairns Post claims these two companies are in debt to the tune of AU$10 million, which should give an indication of how much the cars will be on sale at the auction.

The auction is to be held at Pickles Auctions Sydney at 4.30 pm on Monday June 7, and the cars can be inspected before the auction on the weekend of June 5 and 6.

Online bidding is available for those who can't make it on the day.

Less than two weeks ago, a rare Ford Falcon Phase 3 GT HO was passed in at auction for AU$350,000 after it failed to meet its expected sale price of AU$425,000.

Not much info out there regarding results, any big sales would be all over the news. Muscle car boom is over.

These are some selling prices in no particular order:
VZ Monaro 1405kms $55000
HX LE Monaro $29000
HQ GTS coupe yellow $71000
HJ GTS coupe orange $47000

Well it is interesting to note what the buyers actually considered collectible there.

Many of those case sold for "Car Yard" prices or even less.....

The BF Cobra GT and Cobra Ute certainly didn't fetch much...

Though me thinks that FPV marketting got this one out at the right time during the boom and snagged some sales to excited people in the market that were caught up in the moment...

Very interesting all the same...

Im surprised the GTS-R fetched more than the Walkinshaw.

3 years ago most of those cars would have fetched a lot more than what they did.

From the Daily tele:

IT'S hard to keep a low profile when you're 213cm tall and a millionaire sports star to boot.

But that's just what Australian basketballer Andrew Bogut was doing on Monday night when he turned up to bid at the auction of the most expensive Australian-made car in history.

The vehicle in question - a 2002 HRT 427 Coupe - one of only two ever made, sold two years ago for a whopping $920,000.

It had no log book, no owner's manual, not even a spare key, and with a top speed of 299km/h it can't be registered in NSW.

Not that it mattered much to Bogut, who is based in the US on a five-year, $75 million contract with the Milwaukee Bucks NBA team. The 25-year-old pushed bidding to $305,000, but the car was passed in after it failed to meet reserve.

It is understood Bogut, who has said his biggest dream outside basketball was simply "to have a huge car collection", is now negotiating for the prized wheels.
The car was one of more than 20 Holdens, Fords and Chevrolets put up for auction by Queensland businessman Shawn "Chooka" Ryan. Two companies with which Mr Ryan was associated have been placed into receivership.

HRT 427 Passed In

All I'm thinking while reading this stuff, is that creditors are probably suffering and coming to grips with the fact that they will, most likely, not receive all they are owed from this company.
It's good to see stuff being sold off to recoup the costs though. Its a change from all the other closing business stories where the 'owner' doesnt 'own' anything and its all in family's names, etc.

Maybe the story should be on how the business was able to get in to such a bad position in the first place.

Paying a world record price for a 2 door Commodore seems to have been a pretty good way to send the business belly up.
