Just got a call from the guy who has being doing stuff to my car. I was talking about lowering it but h basically said that KING springs and monroe shocks are at the lower end of the scale.
I was keen for SL's, but apparently they make your car un-roadworthy, whichis not good incase a prang was to happen. So I told him I want the lowest pedders can do for me, he calls up with a quote of $1450..WTF! Thats for springs, shocks (GSR's), camber kit, alignment and installation...is that right? Seems rather excessive.. How much does this usually cost? the TTF's $380 must be a nasty job... Where did you guys go who got everything done?

Nothing wrong with King springs. Nothing wrong with Monroe Shocks. Its just some bang for buck.
Springs should be $200-ish for 4. Shocks should be $400-ish for 4. Camber kit is $400-ish. You can see it adding up now...

I have king lows & monroe shocks & find them great
value & have no problems it is only if i have a lot of weight-- eg trailer on rear loaded up max that it does sometimes hit bump stops but even stock springs commpress under weight. It handles great around bends i belive it is a sales pitch compared to stock springs there is no contest & sure other king spring owners will verify this & u can fit the springs yourself & new shocks no prob. My camber is perfect & tyres never scrubbed out at all i have not had a alignement done. The tyres are as good as day lowered no wear & this is 3rd ea we have owned.

You could always try other brands too. Rumour is that peddars are just Monroes with a shlap of red paint on them. But that not to say Peddars arent good because ive never had anything from them. Have a look around and see what you think.

King springs are fine i would say 80% of people with lowered e-series have them.
Also superlows are not illegal. Most cars still have easily over 100mm clearence with them. The problem is that they lower a car 50-60mm but most mainstream insureres e.g. RACV, NRMA policy is that you can only lower the car 30mm from standard. Just Cars and the like are fine with what ever as long as its above legal height. You will also have to take into account bodykit, size of wheels etc when determinign whether it will be legal hright or not. As for shocks most people get shorter struts in the front as the front seems to sit up a bit more than the back. |

I had pedders fitted to my EF and they are great. Handling is excellent without being too harsh. Never had a problem towing heavy loads.
With the stockies its pretty low but not too low, I think it was just under 150mm from the sill to the ground. Sorry no, photo's with stockies. The 19's you can see below jack it up quiet a bit. I think it was $500 fitted, I probably got ripped off... |

i paid $900 for pedders sports rider, thats springs shockers and front struts. its expensive if u want ur car to handle better rather than just have it look good, mine handled 10X better as soon as i got it done

What you have to remember is the guy sells the stuff and most likely gets a kick back out of it. Theres this thing called bias. Its nasty and often hard to sift through bias to get the real info on stuff.

Yeah, I already have new shocks in the car. Monroe I beleive. The toss pot at pedders tried to sell be on a new set and they weren't cheap by any stretch. It does handle well with the pedders and monroe shocks but I won't exaclty be doing track days in this thing...

Never had a problem with my Kings/monroes! and they cost less than Pedders! Besides, we all aren't lining up at Phillip Island to take our suspensioned cars to the limit, so I figure why pay more when I got something I like hey!. My 2 cents

mm ok..well then I think I am cool with king springs, I knew that 99.9% of people here use them, but the guy was very forward with his views.
Is everyone 100% sure that SL's are legal? If so then I will go with them instead of just lows. So I know what springs I am getting, but what shocks do you guys run? I need new shocks anyway, and the only short travel ones I know of are pedders comfort shor travel or sports ryder. If I had to go pedders then Id rather comfort as sports ryder is insanely hard, plus I dont intend on hooning that much. Id rather the ride be nice and have teh car low than have it low and ride harshly. Even if I lose some handling I dont mind, its just a cruise-mobile at the moment.

OMG what a ИИИИИИ nob!!! It's pretty clear that this guy is trying to extract as much money from you as possible!!!
Lower end of scale = CUT SPRINGS!!!!LOL King springs are excellent and are much better than recessed springs. ALso what the hell would be the difference between a pedders spring and a king spring??? RED PAINT? As for the shocks well theres better ones to be had than monroes such as koni's but for their price they do a good job. And finally superlows are legal unless ur cat converter hangs below 100mm to the ground which it shouldnt anyway. But if your still concerned about what that guy said spray the king springs black and no one will know |

yeah i got king SL's with monroe shocks (shortened in rear) and i got a minimum clearance of 120mm so you got no problem there. as for the ride... i'm happy with it but my opinion of a comfortable ride might be different to your opinion!!

how far do the kings springs lower the car? i saw above that super lows drop it 50-60mm but what about lows and ultra lows? the car is at about 160mm now and i want it to go to 105mm

I've had my pedders sportsryder system for about 6 years (just over 100K kms) and am very happy with it. Most of the time its relatively comfortable but being a daily driver it can sometimes get quite draining/tiring. Overall its a good system that handles relatively well and one you can live with everyday. I run 17's at 39psi per corner (soft compound tyre so high pressures are required) which makes the thing very firm. Running the tyres at 36psi will obviously make the car more comfortable..
The front shocks are a little soft now which is why i'll be replacing the whole suspension system within the next few weeks. This will give you an idea of what i'm going for and whats involved.. http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=42216 |

polyal you see monroes with reflex action on ebay they come from vic $300 i think from repco $380...........but you can also buy a rubber boot which goes over the front shaft on the front struts it keeps the grime off the shinny shaft and gives longer wear, if you buy a set make sure you get heavy duty with "reflex"......... this is my last answer or question on threads I hope I have helped you,

sorry polyal, i thought i should answer your question on ride, monroes will give you a firm ride without being to solid but they handle very well, for what you want you will not be dissapointed.

I use monroe& king springs, my EF handles great...Won't say what they cost because I got them at cost price & free labour... Only problem with fitting super or ultra lows is A) The insurance problems it creats and B) You need a camber kit.
