Hi I have a 2004 Ford Fiesta and when the car is idling there is a distinct noise coming from the engine like a belt spinning. Any ideas on the problem and the fix for it.

It is 5yrs old, how many km's has the car done? Could be up for a new belt. Mine is only 2.5yrs old with 73000km's on the clock and i dont have any such noises. If yours is up over the 100,000km's mayb its ur timing belt starting to go, but i'm only throwing guesses at you.

my 04 zetec used to make a noise under the hood that i would describe as chickens/roosters or whatever clucking but i was sure it was a belt too. everytime i'd take it in to get checked the guys would either never hear it or make me feel like a hypochondriac!

It doesn't do it every time, going to take it in this weekend and see if they can track down the problem. Hopefully it will be making the noise when I take it in.

turns out it was the alternator problem, so getting that fixed this week
