Cost cutting. There is still one person employed, the gardener

Also insurance reasons. Supposedly it didn't cover street drags.

My uneducated opinion is that calder park is finished. Supposedly after these events at calder, the new drag strip where ever it is will go ahead.

True, also something must be brewing.
Allegedly the CEO Rodney Jane sacked everyone even BJ the man himself..... son gives his dad the sack this is strange or maybe not.
Allegedly Bob is going through a divorce, no job, means he is no longer a company employee and the company owns all the assets, who knows were Calder is going despite so many people trying to get it back on track and the last meeting was a ripper, all the good will and getting everyone to come back to Calder means little, people in the drag racing circles are sick of being mucked around.
Calder is where it was 8 years ago still in the wilderness with no clear direction.

Any Forum member wanting race there car come to the Fordforum drag Nationals on 29th and 30th of May @ HPR... click the link in my signature and list your interest..

Not to mention all the Government funding, $15m I believe? It's all been said before, BJ has slaughtered drag racing in the southern states.

Bob's not gone, just looks like it on paper....these are just games they play at Calder seems to never stops.
The longest drag racing manager I have there in thelast 6 years would around 18 months, many only last 6 months before they get sacked...

Best hope for a drag I think is Lindsey Fox building that circuit track at Avalon with a nice big long straight for 1/4 mile racing.

WOOO RAVE........

Actually no, wtf? A rave at Calder??? Wonder if it is the same mob that Ballarat City Council refused to allow access to Kryal Castle ever again. If so, bye bye Calder.

just received this

Quote:
Dear Sponsors, Competitors, Teams, Crews and Drag Racing Fans,
Over the past 2 years the Australian Motorsport Club (AMC) has been working hard to bring Drag racing
back to Calder Park because of our belief in the importance of drag racing at all levels in Australia and the
need to bring it back to Melbourne as a regular feature. This has always been our intent.
We have invested substantial funds to upgrade our facilities, all of which has been undertaken
without financial assistance from either Government or the private sector. Whilst the cost has been
significant it has been necessary to achieve a very important goal which is to have a dedicated Drag Strip
that is faster and safer. The results so far have been spectacular with many records broken and fantastic
feedback from the True Blue Event! Many of you including drivers, crews and spectators have commented
positively on the Drag strip and that the facilities at Calder Park have come a long way.
Works that have been undertaken to date include:
1) Concrete Launch Pad at the Start line
2) Concrete walls along the edge of the bitumen of both lanes
3) Improved Spectator Mounds around the start line and down the entire length of the drag strip; and
4) Work has commenced on a new 1000 square metre Function Centre (next to the dummy
grid) which will be used for events, functions and awards nights etc.
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement Paul Preston from our Adelaide Race Track
prepares all Drag Racing events in Melbourne. Paul will continue to carry out this work in the future as we
have every belief that he has the knowledge and skill required to do a fantastic job. All future drag racing
events will be conducted to highest standards and in a professional manner.
Recently there has been plenty of speculation and discussion about Calder Park and what the future holds
for the AMC. This has come about due to the recent action to put all planned motorsport events on hold.
The reason for our decision is simple! Like any other business we need to reassess our priorities in the
current environment. Our intention is to review the current business plan to ensure long term sustainability
and to develop a 12 month calendar of events that meets your needs. This will include ‘Legal off Street
Drag Racing’ through to Category 1 Top Doorslammer events. With the substantial investments that have
already been made at Calder Park and working with our dedicated in-house team in conjunction with you
our loyal supporters our future success is assured.
We will succeed in making Victorian Drag Racing something to celebrate.
We hope this makes our commitment clear.
Kind Regards
The Australian Motorsport Club

The plans for a circuit and a drag strip out that way were from two seperate groups I thought, with the Avalon drag strip being a standalone deal. The international terminal would have no impact on a proposed drag strip, as Lindsay owns metric butt loads of land out that way. The Avalon raceway is already on the other side of the freeway.
