Default 02 Fairlane Sportsman

Hi all,
After some advice from the AU gurus.
I'm looking at an 02 Fairlane Sportsman.
It's VCT with about 150k on it.
Is there anything in particular I should be checking before purchase?
Rust?
Mechanical issues?
I had a 99 Fairmont Ghia a while ago which was trouble free but was rusty in the boot strut area.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers Jeremy

1 thing you should check that I just found out is rocker arms. The chassis rails under the car. Rust pretty bad with build up of crap over time. Just got a pretty clean fairmont but only found this at roadworthy.

If that's the Blue Sportsman looks pretty clean.

Hi.
Thanks for that. Will definitely check that area.
Yes it's a blue one.
I haven't physically looked at it yet just wanted to be well prepared for when I do.

*Lift up side windscreen moulds with the doors ajar

*remove and inspect metal under boot rubber around latch

*inspect metal seems inside boot behind tailights

If you got any decent rust in these areas be assured that your bumper reinforcement is

swiss cheese... happy hunting.

Check to see if there is a bolt missing from the driver the door ( no Joke )

Rear doors rust right at the back, under the little window

Tranny Cooler fitted ?
Toe bar fitted ?
Check the colour of the tranny oil

Lower and upper otter control arm bushes - rear

Brake at 100, observe if there is shudder

Its a second hand car, no doubt it will need something

Everything is easily repairable via this forum anyway, Just depends if you got time and or money

What colour is that? I am looking at a Navy Metallic one next week. Here is a pic of it about 10 yrs ago but still in VG condition. V8 with 225K but the wheels have now been replaced with aftermarket 17's

Have a set of these 18's Mak Stings in staggered 8/9's that should look nice on it.

Yes I thought yours might be Monsoon. Its a darker blue and sometimes looks like a flip paint colour in different light. I like it and its a rare favourite amongst T Series owners.
The Navy blue metallic is a lighter colour and the Narooma Blue is lighter again. see here https://www.redbook.com.au/cars/deta...OT-ITM-221930/

Books say the colour is Blue Pearl. Will have to check the paint code with Ford

CP is indeed Blue Pearl. Only used in 2002 and not available on Falcon

What is the build date by the way.

Blue Pearl was a BA to BF colour, although AU II Fairlane was made alongside BA so perhaps yours picked up a BA colour being a late build?

Build date 08/02 - yes its a late one.

Another example of LWB car that should have been plated AUIII as the LWB changed to AUIII in July 02

Yes I have asked on the forums before if anyone knows of a AUIII plated LWB but no one has ever came up with one.

The only LWB plated AUIII that I am aware of is my T3 TL50

Pics as promised.
Spent today on the DA polisher.
Has come up ok. The tops aren't perfect.

Jobs done so far:
All fluids and filters replaced
Windscreen replaced
Electrochromatic mirror installed
2 new genuine remotes programmed
2 new tyres

Jobs to do:
Replace failed window tint
Replace leaking exhaust
Detail interior

That's about it I think.
Looking forward to use it once I start my new job as I'll only have a work vehicle to commute so will need to use this outside of that.

Looking for any Sportsman specific parts. If anyone has any let me know.
Front mats in particular.

Came up great. Good work on the polish. Wheels are mint!

Are you sure that's Monsoon. Have you checked the paint code?

Thanks.
It's by no means perfect and I'm no polishing pro.
Yeah paint code is MN and books say Monsoon.
It is very close in colour to yours isn't it?

The Monsoon looks a little darker than the Blue Pearl but yes fairly close. Different polishes can make colours look different also.

Mine is up on stands. So far have changed radiator and some hoses, new header tank and coolant, spark plugs, diff oil. Trans ATF tomorrow although shortly I am going to get a Ford trans specialist to fix a leak towards the rear and replace the rear mount which is covered in ATF.

Also going to swap out the steering rack as its leaking both sides. I have one from a TE50 thats only done 63,000 klms so will see how that goes and get a wheel alignment.

After the mechanical work is finished I will start the detail inside and out and get some pics up
