I currently have an FG egas ute & I love the XRs but feel they are a bit over the top for a 40+ small business owner.
My egas is great but its like driving a fridge, a bit well, boring. I am craving something that goes, handles & stops but the bling of the XRs is too much for me and I get the impression from other blokes my age, that they feel the same. I have been thinking of buying a plain wrapper XLS & doing the mods myself but the insurance costs wreck that plan as it works out worse than an XR turbo!! Any other older basterds on here feel the same?? I want the go but not the show!! |

Take a look at my build thread.

Well you're off to a good start choosing Ford. I'd say, get a XR6T and replace the front end. There isn't alot of difference otherwise.

Maloo....Starship Enterprise or Battlestar Gallactica I cant decide which is more appropriate. A Maloo is the ultimate c.u.b accessory.
I have had Fords since I got my licence so its blue blood through & through. Donte get me wrong I love teh XRs but go to any TAFE college and see how many are parked in the car park, every 2nd 3rd apprentice year has one or a Commonwhore. Jeez my 1st year has one.... |

i am an old bastard, but personally i think they are pretty understated and quite like them, i see them as a well equipped ute , i say stuff what other people say ITS YOUR UTE,
as far as go if you can get by without egas , if you have`nt been for a run in a falcon 6 with the 6 speed auto, ask to take one for a run, they are a rocket ship even without the turbo. |

I think you should find some other blokes that are not quite as staid in their ways.
A current FG XR ute is not an over the top vehicle imo. Who cares if every apprentice tech. student has one - what ever vehicle you eventually purchase, hey, it's your vehicle - don't be swayed by a few opinions - otherwise at the end of the day, you may end up in a four cylinder white box van, to compensate other people's opinion of what vehicle you should own dependant upon what age you are. |

Buy an XR6T - Another $600 for a standard front bumper and headlights (second hand), bolt them on and you've got a wicked sleeper hehe

What about a G6ET? Just as fast as an XR6T without the fast looks.

Buy a white XR6T ute - have the standard wheels painted gloss black, and debadge it. If you must, remove the foglights. Getting a car in the same colour as a fridge does wonders for blending into the background

the maloo quip was my way of saying in a round about way "if you think an XR is too bling take a look at the maloo" maybe my sarcasm got missed, yes XRs are common but they are a damn good car (hence the popularity) you could do what others have said and get an XR and put a std nose on it off an XT or Futura may get away with headlights and bar to do the swap

Hi Snelens, considering you currently drive a e-gs, which has a low performance engine compared to the standard six, have you considered the R ute - not e-gas - it looks good (no grey bits) & the I6 goes well - if you want better economy you could do worse than fit a liquid injection LPG system - no power loss.
In my opinion you should be able to have all the "comfort" items in a ute without having to look like a prostitute, it bugs me no end that ute owners are treated like spartans when it comes to options!

XT UTE with a CAPA SUPER CHARGER kit...
Plastic hub caps/black body rubber moulds, get the ute in FRIDGE WHITE, and leave the suspension at "Ford MONSTER TRUCK" height. No chrome exhaust tip.. Just matt black painted. |

I like the idea of the supercharger & modding an XT but when I worked out the insurance bit it was impractical (30% more than a turbo..).
mrbaxr6t, I definitely understood the sarcasm I was just reinforcing your point. Yes some of my friends are very 'staid', I am the token blue collar tradey guy they have for a mate on the side, & I get along very well with their wives..!! If they still sold the plain wrapper V8 I would have bought one but the egas was bought as a stepping stone as I employ more guys. I will be passing this one along as we grow but the next one will be mine for 5 years or so. A de-badged, de-bumpered, de-skirted XR6T would be PERFECT. Its a pity they still don't do the V8 3Vs. Maybe when coyote comes out? Kennyboy you hit the nail on the head. |

We must have different definitions of that term.
