Default stall converters in... problems....

Hi,

Well i finally got the bastard in lol... Anyhow..

Its stalling up nicely but when launching, it feels like its slipping but the revs will not raise.... This is at about 3100rpm at wot...

Now it will catch when i stall it a little lower and then release, but not when i stall it up a bit more...

Now im hoping its not the box(or stally), because i absolutly hate working on boxes...

Could this be due to leaning out??? I mean its not slipping (revs going up and down.. etc)

Please tell me its due to a lean tune lol... ???? :newangel: :newangel:

It wont do it if i just plant it from the lights, but when i stall it up to about 2 grand, and then let her rip, the tyres will smoke and then all of a sudden the tacho will just stop at 3200rpm, but still be pushing the car...

Anyone?? any ideas?? I dont think leaning is the problem unfortunately....

This is normal. The stall will "stop" at the peak stall rpms until the roadspeed catches up. Once the roadspeed catches up it will then climb again. Mine does it too.

sorry fellas.... it was LHM...

I dont think stall converters are supposed to lock up at 3100rpm for 300m lol

I will try a bigger trans cooler and see how it goes...

Im a bit worried though... because its doing this even when the oil is cold(ie, cold motor)

How old is the box? Has it been re-built?

It sounds like the stall is too big for the ECU. They often go into LHM with stall speeds over 3000rpm.

Either by launching at lower RPM, changing the convertor, or maybe fitting a trans chip to the ECU/TCU and altering a few of the settings and you might be in luck.

It's been fairly well documented on the forum EEC, and especially E-Series EEC don't like seeing stall speeds over 3000rpm.

Yes I'd be double checking fluid levels too. Also try doing the ECU Self-Test listed in here: http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=52 - It should tell you why it's going into LHM.

Normally the BTR boxes can handle high outputs with a few mods quite well, but the factory does seem to have averge QA, and the quality between transmissions is quite varied. If it doesn't already have one, have you fitted an AU S5 adjustable solenoid? You can adjust line pressures with it, which alters shift speed.

naa to be honest i dont know much about boxes, all ive dont is throw the 2800 tce or tge stall in it, and put a bigger cooler on it...

the stall works nicely, but when in drive, and when i stall it to about 2100 and then let it go, it goes into LHM...

So i will give a service a go (new oil, filter).... if not, ill do the self test.

Ive got ems on the way but i was planning to have the stock comp control the autos....

i will look at the AU solenoid though.. what do you guys think of those cheapo shift kits??

anyhow, was fiddling before and it wont do it when i have it in 1st gear, but will do it when i have it in drive.. so im not sure if this means anything but thought id tell..
