Ford Australia did this, they did quite a nice job with what they were told to do: Make a cheap, but cheerful and good small car that's leaps ahead of other Indian cars. I too am happy with the 'diesel and petrol' engines, fingers crossed!

A little too close to Ford Fido for my liking. :
But them I am inclined to call my car a Ford Fiasco in unguarded moments - a reflection of my view of the original Ford Fiesta I saw in Germany in 1991. :togo: The Fiesta has come a long way since. : I'd prefer a different name for such a great car - honestly I would prefer Ford Verve, like the concept car.

No way, the Fiesta name has the goods, and it's perfect for the car. I may be alone, but I'm glad they didn't go with Verve. After all the research they did about the name, Ford thought the Fiesta name was too good to throw away. If anything the Fiesta has gotten better with nearly every gen, in the late 90's it got some dynamics, and in 2001 it was a brilliant little handler. Now in 2009 it's just as good as ever. Unlike most other brands, the Fiesta name has truly gotten better.

It looks like Ford has pulled the same trick with the WP Fiesta as Toyota USA did with the Avalon.
Ship the tooling to a 3rd world country (in Toyotas case Australia) and let them use it to make a car for local consumtion, and at the same time get cheap crash repair panels for the home market, without having to disrupt production of current model panels. |
