Hi all,
I have noticed something lately that has got me worrying. When holding 3rd gear and accelerating, at ~2500 RPM my revs drop and I lose some speed. It is as though the trans is changing up. It isn't upshifting however because if I shift to D then a proper upshift occurs. It is only transient and not associated with any sinister noises or crunching, etc. It only happens if manually shifting and when holding 3rd......does not happen in 3rd gear when set on D. Does not happen in any other gear either. Trans last serviced in Dec 2010. At this point in time my brain is not capable of trouble shooting this so I wonder if any one can give me some insights. |

I'd suggest to at least service the transmission every 20,000km's or 12 months at the very most.... Not saying that it will hurt to not service it that often (The old AU went nearly 2 years and 80,000km's without a trans service), but it's a good preventative thing that should always be done at either of those intervals...
Could also be the ECU trying to force the trans to shift up....

get a transmission service from a transmission specialist . thats not just changing the oil and filter it is making all the appropriate adjustments

Yes, does sound like the normal converter lockup in 3rd.

Dr Jekkyl, i read your thread title of 'auto transmission slipping' then i read your opening post, but I can't seem to see how it is doing anything but normal behaviour. When a transmission slips, your revs will increase - it will feel almost as though the car has been knocked into neutral.

So this phenomena is very probably normal? Thats good news.
I am just not sure why it is suddenly so prominent though.....I have had the car for nearly 18 months. The last thing I need right now is expensive repair/replacement of my transmission. I will be getting it serviced in November again so I will see what happens then. Thanks for your input. |
