Parking sensor fault

Hi all,

2009 XR5

So I start car and all is fine, shift to reverse and get a flashing parking sensor (PS) button light & continuous high pitched fault tone whereby the PS system becomes disabled (both front and rear).

Shutting off & restarting engine often will reset PS, and fault will either return or they might work fine for a while.

When operating correctly at startup, the fronts detect as normal, but if I walk to rear of car, the rear PS cause it to fault out again.

Even when testing just a single rear sensor, say with a hand, it will usually fault the system so it’s difficult to determine if just a single sensor is faulty or if it’s deeper into the system such as the control module located behind the boot lining.

Sensors are clean and connections seem tight.

Swapping out front sensors to the rear is last resort as quite difficult to access fronts.

Have previously scanned with ELM327 Bluetooth adaptor using Forscan & Torquelite apps with no codes returned. As it's intermittent & rears only with problem I'm thinking control module or bad connection somewhere perhaps, as the speakers emit correct tone on the occasions it doesn't fault.

Am considering obtaining a single PS and substituting one rear at a time as a process of elimination?

Anyone had similar experience and/or fix?

I'd do one sensor and swap it amongst the other positions till it fixed the problem, but if they are cheap enough to replace all then I'd do that.

I have swapped out a front sensor to each of the rear positions, with the rears into front position - all 8 sensors work when in front bumper, but fault when in rear bumper.

I've now had car scanned at Supercheap Auto which returned a code B1B5201 pointing to a fault with rear Park assist speaker (as per Mondeo workshop manual description of code). I've always assumed sound came from car speakers...but rear one is located near drivers side passenger C pillar apparently (in addition to the front one in dash).
Will gain access in a day or 2 and see if any loose connections to begin with.

About 2 years ago I backed into a post causing minor damage to the right rear,
Where the sensor mounted in the bumper was just minimally damaged,
However soon as I reversed the beeps went mad,
2011 MC wagon, 2 outer are white and 2 inner not painted, on black sill,
I ordered another sensor from overseas via Ebay,
Swapped all the rears around using new one, still went mad,
I painted the new sensor the white colour like the 2 outside ones, still no good,
Then I loosely hung them out from the bumper socket and all was good,
Fitted them, problems again,
I then fitted one without the rubber seal around it and bingo all good,
Buggered if I know why but its still OK 2 years down the track,
Try with all the sensors hanging out and see how you go,

i tried to fit the factory reverse sensors to my BA wagon .... everything worked well till i clamped/mounted the wiring etc . . maybe that was my problemo

Ok, problem rectified.

Replaced rear Park assist speaker, located above headlining alongside rear passenger dome light (pop this out to access through the hole) with a used one for $40 off ebay.

The fault with the parking sensors in my ford mondeo 2012.was simple in the end. A relay had gone. Part cost 22 dollars to replace plus 50 labour
