Our XR5 was making a fair bit of noise when the missus drove to work yesterday. So she went around to the Ford dealer at Chermside and they arranged a warranty claim.
All they said was the ventilation system was blocked, they said it was safe to drive as long as it was driven steady. When the engine light came on in the afternoon my missus called into the dealers again. To their credit they arranged to fix it today and everything is going well. Has anyone else had this happen to them (the blockage that is )? edit:clarity

What, your air intake was blocked, they told you that then let you walk out with it still blocked.
I might not be a mechanic, but I do know that you need air as well as fuel and a spark for combustion. What were they going to do when the motor crapped itself, would have they replaced it. This type of stuff gets me really made, you have a problem, just go home and keep the problem until we can get to you. You would go to the doctors with a piece of crap in your throat and its hard to breathe and they say, not to worry go home, but dont run around. Arrhhhh Sorry for the rant

Its more likely the PCV. Not the actual intake...
Common problem with the focus XR5/ST. Buildup of pressure in the crank case, you would have noticed a weird noise if you popped the bonnet on idle. Noise goes away if you pull the dipstick or the filler cap. No big deal, they just replace the PCV / filter housing. Its good you caught it early. Unless it actually was the air intake path, in which case that dealer is a bit... |
