Default Onboard computer diagnostics

You can get a whole bunch of engine temperatures (and other data) by unlocking the dash. It's a pain to do every trip, but if you had a specific interest in the data for one or two trips (to test something maybe) then it's handy.

While starting the engine, hold down the 'mileage reset' button on the rev counter and keep it pressed for 10 seconds. The dash will go into test mode - advance the tests with the button until you get to the temperatures section and leave it there. Go for a drive and watch the constantly updated figures!

This also works on other Fords, Focus and Mondeo being two others I've tried. Hope that helps.

Here's the full list:

1.Shows a Gauge Sweep
2. Shows all ACL on the LCD (LCD TEST)
3. Turns on all the annunciators on the dash (BULB TEST)
4. Displays hexadecimal value for ROM level (FirmWare Revision)
5. Displays the hexadecimal value for EE level
6. Shows DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) ---------------------> THIS IS VERY, VERY, VERY HANDY!
7. Digital Speedometer - mph
8. Digital Speedometer - kph
9. N/A
10. Digital tachometer
11.Fuel volume
12. Engine coolant temperature
13. Battery voltage
14. ABS/TRACS Error Code
15. Electronic brake distribution (EBD) failure
16. Illumination
17. Crank Sense

:togo:

Better than that, get a Scangauge for very little and have the ability to display it all as gauges (which is what we do)

You will find it in the little drop down compartment by the drivers right knee.

All the models have it.

Nice cop out. You never had them in the first place. :

I've already got a set of LED's that I'll hopefully be putting in this weekend and will gladly share with those of you who want rear illumination if they work out. :

Oh look who suddenly appeared the second his name was uttered in an unfavourable mannor yet manages to ignore us most the time. What annoys me though is that you attempt to disprove all our findings with our cars despite not backing up any of your claims with proof. Don't want to sound rude, but I honestly don't see the point mate?

Sorry to hijack, I just needed to say that.

It should work pretty much as stated above... While the key is in the ignition and in the off position, press the "tripmeter reset button" (located on the bottom right hand side of the tachometer). Then immediately turn the key to start the car, while keeping the tripmeter reset button pressed. Hold the button until the information display between the tacho and speedo changes to the "test" mode (should take approximately 5 to 10 seconds).

What model do you have? It is possible that this test diagnostic mode is only available on models with the trip computer (i.e. LX and Zetec).

Yep me too, post your build date, if you've had an upgrade, auto-manual etc to see if we can work out a pattern...

Mmm my car is down the street somewhere on a count I was intoxicated last night. When I pick it up, or find it, either way, I'll check the stats on it. This will be good if we can all share data.

Has anyone tried it yet? Has it shown up the firmware version?

I think its a great idea to compare what versions we all have..

Tried it but didn't take much notice. The digital km readout was useless, unless I'm looking at the wrong screen lol.

I remember this popping up on my WP Zetec. You have to hold the button in when the key is in the off position (so you can take it out) then quickly turn the key and start. Hold on till it pops up, a few seconds after the car starting.

I'll try it midday tomorrow when I'm off work. But it shows three numbers and none of them were the 60km/h I was driving.

The digital speed shown in the test mode includes the first decimel place. That is, 59.8km/h shows 598. On mine, thie digital speed seems around 5% under, compared to the speedo. This is likely to be more accurate than the speedo, but I haven't compared it with GPS readings.

Ok. Yeah I'm slow but I finally got around to it last night. You actually don't have to turn the car on, just hold in the button and switch to ignition.

I'm running Firmware RAE (rAE) according to this and my forth option. But I have heaps more options than this list. Not sure what they check, but at least another 10. So what Firmware are you guys running? Have I done it right lol?
