Hi all.
Just a quick thread. I've just been valuating some shares and other assets and was after some idea of the current value of my car, as in what I could sell it for right now. Red book isn't held as the most accurate guide, it says $8,100-$10,600 privately I'm guessing about 10-12k but I thought I'd ask in case anyone has been hunting and has a better idea of the market and what the mods increase/decrease the value by. Briefly, it's a 98 burgundy EL fairmont ghia V8 180,000ish lowered with sportsryder stuff, 18x8 polished Advanti victory rims... some new bushes blah blah K&N, CAI, 65mm sprint TB, ported cobra inlet manifold, ported E7TE heads with bigger valves & springs, pacemakes & exhaust, crane 2031 cam, underdrives, etc. Did about 211rwhp on last dyno and pb on the 1/4 is 14.5x (can't remember, it's in my sig) Any accurate(ish) ideas? Mit freundlichen Grüßen. !Gn|T|0n©®™

... interesting ... I had suspected that the mods would have no net effect really, which is what you're suggesting.

sometimes its harder to find a buyer when you have mods because either
a) they want to do it themselves b) they simply want an unmodified car c) they believe the car is modded for a reason = eg thrashed. I find cars have higher resale when in stock form half the time, thats why i keep all my stock parts when upgrading. |

I'd say 8-10 at a guess.

the second hand market is stuffed, a 98 EL Ghia is worth way more then $8-10,000. but in reality its worth only what people will pay and people dont want to pay big money for second hand cars.
you have to ask yourself how much the car is worth to you, if you can only get around $10,000 for it, and you think its worth more then keep it. otherwise, if want to upgrade your going to have to cut your losses and sell it for the cheap amount. think about it, your car has got leather, a half decent factory sound system, a powerfull V8 engine, and its a large, nice car to drive. think about how much your going to have to pay to get those features in a brand new car. |

We had an EF XR6 in pretty good condition. It had done some K's but was looked after. We bought our current AU xr6 and wanted to offload it to a dealer to save the hassle of selling it private. We found it vary hard to find anybody who would even look at it and ended up selling it to a dealer for way less than it really was worth. I now wish I had kept it even if it sat under a car cover for a few years. Should have kept it. Hindsight is always 20/20

if you werent in a hurry to tell it, and were willing to wait for the right buyer then i don't think $12k would be out of the question.

considering you can get the 6 potter variant with around 100k for 6 grand, your best bet its to find someone that really wants the 8.. I know with all the hype of the fuel prices etc it might be hard, but hang out Paul and you might get lucky

Thanks all. Perhaps I should have been clearer. I’m not selling the car; I just wanted some idea of what it was worth for my books.

If you can find a buyer who is after that particular car I think you may get about 10k if in good condition but otherwise sfa. I got 10k trade in late 2003 for a 4.0L Fairmont Ghia, modified, good nic at dealer, 120k.
How about those EL XR8s. They seem to be holding their value well!! Always wanted one as a project car, but still in mid to high teens for series 2. |
