Cold Morinings

Hi all. As most would probably know its bloody freezn here in Canberra in the morning and when i have to get up early there is a nice thick layer of ice on my windows.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any products which prevent ice build up or ease it a bit? Bloody takes forever to get rid of not to mention I freeze my **** off in the process.

Lol nah no room. Renting at the moment and there is only one carport. Plus any advice would be helpful for my bro aswell as he gets up at 3am for work and bloody wakes everyone up.

i've heard of things called 'sheds' and 'carports' their good products for the prevention of ice build up.. hehe..
But more seriously Coat the window with a solution of three parts Apple Cider Vinegar to one part water. Never tried it but learnt it off a lady who shows dogs, and she swears by it!! Don't ask me why she told me, i still don't know!

I just get the hose and squirt the windows. Other than that put a car tarp over it.

well at least he's not an idiot who pours really hot water on his sub zero windows. That can get expensive.

You could give some rainX a go, might stop the water building up in the first place, and if it does, it should be easier to scrape off...and it's great stuff anyway.

That Rain X isnt bad, or if u have somewhere to put it try a car cover that u can jsut pull off and sit somewhere for the ice to run off once u have taken it off....Not in the boot!!!

Put a sheet or blanket over your windscreen take off in morning...put on ground..and drive away...lived in Canberra for a while it works.

Yeah at the moment i use the sunfighter on the front windscreen and it works a treat. I put on the demister on the back and that sorts that out. Its just mainly the side windows that are the problem.

Ill give the Rainx a try for sure though.

Matter of fact if its gonna rain just forget the damn sheet, it probably wont frost anyway.

My experience is it just freezes over. Plus it wakes up the whole house dammit lol.

Yeah it doesnt after it rains thats why im happy when it rains so i dont have to get up damn early to get the ice off lol.

RainX on your windows will help, but the real trick is to make sure your windows are unltra clean as frost will accumulate on the dust particles....best option is to really find a carport/garage, but seeing thats not an option try RainX....give it 2 coats too.

In Northwest Sydney here we have been getting some decent frosts (probably nothing like Canberra though) and I use the cold water, I just make sure I use enough so that it changes the glass temp enough to stop the water re-freezing on the window.

Yeah if it isnt too cold water does work but there are plenty of times where i have used the washer jets and no joke freezes over immediately lol.

Its a joke where we live as there is plenty of space for more carparks or even a garage. Hopefully by this time next year we would have moved back to our house or have bought another one.

I keep askn my mum to get her to park her commy in the open as the heater is way better than my car but her answer is my car is worth 10x more so yours will be in the open my boy lol. :

Yep .. I had/have the same problem. *HAD* a nice two car garage in old house (still unsold) but currently renting house with nothing. Worry about everything .. rain, frost, hail, dust, etc, etc ...

Last weekend I bought one of those cheap "portable" carports. Dug six holes in the back yard, concreted six steel cylinders into the holes and sat the carport in those. Hopefully now it won't blow away! If the top gets damaged it will still be worth it in my opinion. No more frost/rain!!

[ BTW: The property owner is a friend .. that's how I get away with putting concrete in the backyard! ]

i just hit it with the hose and put the wipers on and she works a charm, once you start driving it dry's out and is all good. i do this all the time and recon its a good way to go about it.

The problem with Canberras climate is the air is sooooo cold in the morning. Water will just freeze again when you driving. It happens unless the sun is out.

Also another bad thing of it being in the open was that it was exposed to the bushfires and hot ash burnt through the clearcoat. Lots of good suggestions here thanks for the info.

If it is just your side windows, wind them down then up quickly. should wipe the ice off. Just a thought. It isn't that cold here. Of course, you could move to sunny Queensland!

I like Queensland. I went to Burleigh Heads a lot of years ago but even i remember how nice it was.

Mate the ice is pretty thick and ive tried the window trick. It will work when its warmer than most days.

I really dont get it isnt the last month of winter meant to the warmest yet it seems to me that it has been the coldest lol.

Anyhow the afternoons are comming up in temperature (i think we got 17 or 18 degrees yesterday) and boy it felt hot after all this cold weather so hopefully it will be over soon.
