Question New Victorian Number Plate Style - post ZZZ.999

The end of the Z series is near. I checked VicRoads website but it does not show what they are planning for next year:

http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/...mberplates.htm

WA and SA have recently moved from 6 to 7 characters. NSW has changed from 3-3 to 2-2-2 format.

What will the new format for Victorian number plates?

MOD EDIT: as at 10/06/13 - New style will be [1AA.1AA] carrying the slogan "Stay Alert Stay Alive"

The last thing I want to see is 7 characters. Just doesn't look right. I hate it. Looks crowded and being old the last thing I need is having to memorise extra characters!!

I hope they start again at AAA000 and issue all that are not in use. I reckon 90-95% would be available to re-issue.

The next best thing would be to start at AAA00A or go QLD style with numbers first 000AAA.

I seriously hate the NSW sequence of AA00AA, just that much harder to memorise.

Who knows what they will do

7 letter plates would be better I reckon, opens up more ideas for custom plates.

Given that "AAA" was in the mid 70's, C plates were around '78, E was about about 1990, F started in 1993, then there will be plently of availablilty of the early AAA to FFF and so on. There's not that many cars from that era that carry their original rego. Indeed, there's not that many cars from that era at all.

No problem that I can see.

In early 2013, Victoria will have exhausted all ABC-123 format plates with the current
Victoria - The Place To Be slogan. Two main combinations are under consideration:
A12-AAA or V123-ABC (like South Australia's "S" prefix) Vic - stay alert stay alive - it's
replacement slogan starts when the new combinations format begin and the blue on
white reflective base will be retained.

If they were ever going to reissue old plates they would need to be plates that have been returned. I'm sure there are many out there stolen, lost or in peoples sheds that they then wouldn't be able to reproduce.

As above though it'll be a new sequence.

Not far off now. Irrelevant for me, my wife bought me a set of plates bearing the rego number of the first vehichle I ever drove - our old farm tractor which by happy coincidence was a Ford. I'll carry these plates for the rest of my days.

Will still be hoping we stick with a 6 character format, I hate the look of 7 character plates. Just doesn't look right!!

Nice sentimental value!

Ideally, I’d love to get the number plates from my first car…it was an E-series number plate…but as far as I can tell, my old girl is still in service..somewhere…

Probably just swap the numbers to the front like Queensland did many years back.
Queensland did it when we got to 000-OOO, and they held a competition to randomly hand out the first new plate of the series (000-OOO), and, wouldn'tcha know it, the guy that won was a government guy associated with the main roads department...funny that...

We did that for Dad a few years ago. We put in to buy him the Plates that were on his first Car (Morris 1100). They are now on his 65 Mustang. He loved it.

Am I the only one who can clearly remember the rego number of thier first car as clear as a bell (mine was 263-NSF, way back in 1982), yet for the car you currently own you'd have to actually walk out and have a look to say what the licence number was...?
