Did you get a usb data cable? or are you trying to use the infra-red port?
The computer has to have an infared port as well (laptops generally do, PC's generally don't). You can buy a infa-red port for your PC that plugs into your usb port. The last version of Nokia Data Suite was crap. Oxygen Phone Manager is much better software.

Hey mate, yeah I got one too. Bloody great unit, apart from some of the buttons but you get used to it. I too can't get the data suite to load on WinXP properly - or I should say the phone doesn't seem to "connect" even when it IS installed.

Have you tried downloading PC Suite from net (Nokia website) I have never had a problem with XP and most of my computers run PC Suite.
My phone has 678 numbers and I back up with IR or cable. Worth a try

I got a Nokia N70 a few days ago also, bloody awesome phone/camera/media player! I found that there was trouble syncing with the PC, i would recommend cleaning the contacts on the USB cable... worked here, and works a treat now!

Well i run PC suite on WinXP SP1 with no problems - although it is via a bluetooth connection on a 6630, never tried with the cable.
Get a bluetooth dongle, they're worth their weight in gold. Welcome to the world of symbian phones. Check out the forums at www.imserba.com. You will be blown away by what these phones are capable of... What OS does the N70 run?

Wew, looks like a pretty scmich phone. Did you's get yours on a plan or what, where'd you get it from, whats the cheapest plan you can get it on. Or if you brought it outright how much did you pay? Im interested in getting a new phone. Oh and if its a 3g phone, does that mean you can only use it on a 3g network. Like could i use it with my existing optus sim?

Yeah it's a nifty phone. It has 3G and all the goodies - it's one of the "first smart phones." It has a word processor, spread sheet, video calls, and this other crazy stuff!
I'm with 3 ($49 cap and $25 for the phone) although I think you can get it without paying for the handset now.

As for the phone/connection problem - have you installed the USB Cable driver? Its separate to the PC Suite software. If you have, have you checked that USB is the conenction method in the Nokia Connection Manager applet in Control Panel?? See the image attached/below. |

I think it's pretty much $25 a month for the phone, unless you buy it outright. |

I have it on the Optus network, I believe you can set up video conferencing, and other 3g Functions! But i am yet to do it.... Same plan on Optus though $49 cap and $25 per month handset payments. |

Can definitely do it with the N70...my home away from home. Can also set up MSN or YAHOO Messenger as well... although would be quite time consuming without a Keyboard to type on! If you have a bluetooth connection on your laptop, and a dialup account, you could have a pretty quick connection via modem while hooting down the freeway....! (Have laptop, but havn't tried... JUST YET) |

Alright, i have one last question, once again to do with the 6280 (although i suppose its relative to the N70 also) when you get it on three, does it have like the original nokia menu etc, like most '3' phones ive seen have a sort of artificial special operating system. For example the media player in them, they all seem to be the same. Is this the case with the nokia 6280. Did that make any sense?

Sorry, was that to me?? So it has the normal (excellent) nokia menu system and not the '3' version?

My N70 is on optus, but it has a simlar menu to the 6280.
Has lots of options. Its slightly different, but still a genuine Nokia set up! Not a setup with Optus' sling on it. Apart from the Penguin Screen Saver! *Bounce BOUNCE* |

Ah k, but when its on the three network, do they put their own menu system on it? Like ive got a brochure here and the media player it shows is exactly the same as all other '3' phones, yet when i looked at one yesterday, i think it had the nokia menu, im confused!

It could well be the old image is for "display purposes only" trick. They put an incredibly high res picture on the small screen of any phone in the glossy brochure that is attached.

btw the N70 doesnt have infrared it uses USB or bluetooth I have had my n70 for just over a moth now. works fine on my pc but you cant have the older pc suite installed. It also has an network autosetup in the tools section, beware IF you connect the modem in a non 3g area it connects to GPRS at 8c per kb !!!!! via OTA Cheers Jimmy |
