Default Rattles, squeaks, buzzes, and chirping birds...

Now that I have quite a collection of AU's, I'm noticing the dash rattles and squeaks are pretty standard across the board.

I've worked out a few common ones, such as the interior mirror, dash cowl, and egg.

The one I can't seem to fix is the chirping bird around the cluster area.

I've removed the cluster several times, poked and prodded in there, but found nothing. I've also fitted pieces of felt to the cluster, but no help.

If I press firmly upwards on the dash, just in front of the cluster, the bird shuts up.

Any ideas how to silence the chirping bird?

Not at idle.
Driving, not on smooth bitumen, but the coarser stuff, and obviously on rougher roads.

My XR is the most rattley thing around. I think this may be due to the fact it is lowered and the QLD roads are horrible...
The only solution is to just turn the radio up .

Mine are lowered and/or stiffer in the suspension too, plus the roads where I live are very very poor.

However, I have managed to get rid of the majority of noises.
It's just this one chirping bird that's driving me mad.
As I said, I can stop it if I press upwards on the dash right near the cluster, but it's a bit hard to drive like that continuously.

How do you fix the rear view mirror one? We have bad roads here and over vibrations it rattles. There's a grub screw or something but I can't find it.

I think AU1 had the grub screw and AU2/3 have a clip.
You need to push a screwdriver in from the bottom and gently lever the clip open, then slide the mirror towards the roof.
All very carefully, I hear windscreens have been smashed.

Once it's off, you'll see why it rattles, and just tap the rivets with a hammer and punch to make it tight again.

I have a chirping rattle which turned out to be the fuse box cover under the cluster.

Drove me crazy on a 500km highway journey.

the most annoying is when the window is down while driving and the passenger belt rattles on the b pillar trim!

I've got the factory fitted mirror rattle. I tried to remove mirrors at the wreckers, and smashed windscreens in the process so I'm not going to try mine! I've also got an exhaust rattle (more noticable when people are sitting in the back), and the lock button on the drivers door can have a bloody annoying buzzing rattle too.

I could be a smart a*** and say just install a meowing cat under the dash to fix the chirping bird?
Hehe, sorry about that.

The mirror, my solution... I got a lid of an ice-cream container and cut and shaped it to fit. With a good press fit, I haven't heard that infernal squeak since.

Just did 20km on gravel corrugated roads.. Can safely say I got no dash rattle, I've got a heavy metal thrash band in there..

Possible solution, several cans of expanda foam?
