Default 1987 Engel MRF40 been in a shed since 1989...

After 35 years in storage, it fired-up on 240V no problems.

24 hours later drinks etc are perfectly cold on setting 1, out of 5.

50 bucks at deceased estate sale. Unbelievable little things.

I have 2 20 year old upright Engel frigs one in a boat the other in a motorhome both run nice and cold and do what required. The only thing wrong with Engel is they are not CE rated like other brands even back then.

No big deal for average user, but in a boat they will cause massive RF interference with the TV, radio and UHF radio.

Most are CE ticked these days but the last time I checked some Engel's still didn't have that important rating.

Consider yourself lucky, even good brand fridge freezer could have deteriorated over that time, must admit those Engels are great fridges and you are a winner for that price.
cheers.

Interesting, I noticed mine has an Earth lug and the sticker mention's something about radio interference on it. Wondered what it was all about. Any idea if it helps/works?

The little round RF signal cancelers which just slip over the input lead may help but are not a guarantee that it will work.
Most problem are when it is using 12V supply.

It was such a problem in the EU UK market at the time, non CE approved
12-24V frig were banned from selling in the marine market.

There must be some little capacitor/RF choke/coil DIY gizmo that old 'hacks' can knock-up to solve the issue though...?

For the most part yes, but on water seems to be troublesome. I've tried most of those gizmo's hack you speak of. The little toroids work the best in my application but still occasional interfered with the marine radio. Turn the frig off while using the radio was the easiest hack.

The boat being steel probably doesn't help either.
