My little jack Russell is a snake, well he acts like one, getting closer to the ground than any snake I have seen has had some fun going around under the car.
He is now looking like a reverse skunk with a nice thick line of oil down his back, how would you recommend cleaning it of him.

Possibly eucalyptus oil.
Pour onto a cloth and lightly rub. I did a search on it and it has hints for removing stains from carpet, i guess fur is not much different. Have a look at the "Bosisto's" site. |

Yeah great Fordy thanks, now after the first spray of degreaser I have a Jack Russell attached to my groin... I dont think he was happy

I amazed someone hasn't mentioned steamcleaning it yet!
Gary, try some gentle hand cleaner (no, not solvol). Or normal Palmolive bath hand wash, or dishwashing detergent like morning fresh or something like that (do not put dog in dishwasher). Get yourself some pet conditioner and hit him with that a few time after you get it all out. Helps return some oils to the skin (the good oils that is). |

 EDIT1 - ^^^ Since your dog is attached to your groinal region, you could kill two birds with one stone :P EDIT2 - "one in the hand is worth two in the bush"? or something like that... I dunno. |

Set the dishwasher to "Dog". Insert Dog. Return in 20 minutes.
Tumble Dry on warm. Iron on cool. Or alternatively. Grease breaks down with friction. Make him a duct tape helmet, and do what comes naturally.

I would put a coating of hand cleaner on his back, work it into his coat and then sponge him off.

The horror dog takes an interest in anything I'm doing with the car (particularly springs) and often manages to get good grease spots.
I usually clean him with a lanolin based hand cleaner, washing it off as quickly as possible. Hasn't upset his skin to date. |

I'd be worried that you had a ferret setting on your washing machine just quietly.
Snowy usually comes clean with some engine degreaser and then some lanolin afterwards. Cheers Russ PS: Note that this is ONLY after he's cleaned all the oil from under the car! Helps with the RWC.

If my neighbours kid passes for a pet then I can relate. He used to come over all the time to see what I was up to.
I used to drain oil into an old cut out oil container, and use the new container to drain it into for disposal, after filling the engine with it. Between draining and refilling, I sat the cut out bottle full of old oil down and went for coffee/lunch whatever. When I returned the neighbours kid is sitting there with a sad look on his face, oil all over his chin holding a wooden spoon. I kid you not. What year is the Jack Russell? |

we had a sheep when I was growing up he was adicted to used cork gaskets the harder and shiter the better, I remember one day I was doing the tappet covers on my ute and he ate all the flaked off gasked ant a 3/8 socet I know he ate it becasue it came back out and some thing in sheeps guts can lift the chrome off a SKF socet.
as for the do CT18 works a treat

The pros recommend using dishwashing detergent. Or that was the 'only' recommended approach when I did my last oil spill response training. Apparently using human cleansers (soap / shampoo & the like) can destroy natural oils in animals fur / feathers & end up doing more damage then the oil did in the first place. Not that it's an overly big worry atm, but the clogged fur will also mean that the dog can't keep warm/cool as efficiently as it would with clean fur, but I don't think the little fella was that badly covered to be concerned.

Many years ago my two sons painted our cat with blackboard paint. I had to wash the cat in turps to get the paint off and then in soap to get the turps off. Have you ever tried to wash a cat? I had scratches from butt to breakfast time.
