Thumbs down French government considering taxing vehicles according to weight

https://www.connexionfrance.com/Fren...French-eco-tax

This puts EVs at a disadvantage due to their heavy battery packs.

Who gives a ****. That is a French problem.

Weight has been the least of the concerns when it comes to EVs here.

French government positions itself to tax vehicles that don't pay fuel tax?

I think that was Italy

I'd love to see an SS-V and XR8 laying down double leggers in Paris

I looked up the Norwegian vehicle import calculator, it asks for:
*Vehicle group,
*Fuel type (petrol, diesel, EV, hybrid)
*New or used
*First registration date abroad
*CO2 emission rate
*Purchase price (for the purpose of adding 25% GST)
*NOx-emission rate
*Engine capacity (stroke volume)
*Vehicle mass
*Engine power (kW)
Each of these components have progressive tables that increases the tax rate rapidly if the vehicle is more than a small vehicle such as a Polo / Yaris / Fiesta.
EVs are currently free to import to Norway, no GST, no tax at all.
Cheers,

one way to move forward & collect back some of the lost fuel tax revenue is to hit the non fuel using vehicles a weight tax i guess...

don't be surprised if that becomes a reality in other parts of the word as the push increases to ev's

Because heavier vehicles cause more road damage & therefore should have to pay a bit more ?
